A novel polyurethane prepared by reacting a) a specific polyol or specific polyol blend, b) an organic diamine, c) fillers, and d) a specific polyisocyanate is described. The invention also relates to the use of the polyurethane in the preparation of a composite structure wherein the polyurethane is applied to an adhesive coated ceramic enamel layer. The composites are eminently suitable for use in plumbing applications (e.g. as a bathtub).

This invention relates to a process for the production of a polyurethane elastomer by reacting a reaction mixture comprising (A) an isocyanate-reactive component having a molecular weight of 400 to 12,000, a functionality of about 2 to about 8 and being capped with 13 to 21% by weight of ethylene oxide, wherein the isocyanate-reactive groups are hydroxyl groups, amine groups or mixtures thereof; (B) an isocyanate-reactive component comprising (1) an isocyanate-reactive component containing at least two hydroxyl groups and having a molecular weight of from 62 to 399, and (2) an isocyanate-reactive component selected from the group consisting of (a) an isocyanate-reactive group containing tertiary amine polyether corresponding to a specific formula, (b) at least one organic amine compound containing at least two amine groups which are reactive with isocyanate groups; (C) potassium halide; (D) an internal mold release agent; (E) at least one catalyst, and (F) a polyisocyanate component.

This invention relates to a process for the production of polyurethane/urea moldings which exhibit both high flexural modulus and high impact strength. The process comprises reaction injection molding of a reaction mixture in the presence of a catalyst via the one-shot process. The isocyanate component of this invention is a prepolymer of methylenebis(cyclohexyl isocyanate) having an NCO content of 12-27%, an average isocyanate functionality of less than 2.3, a monomer content of greater than about 25% by weight, and containing urethane or urea groups. The isocyanate-reactive blend comprises a high molecular weight polyether polyol and a low molecular weight chain extender, wherein the isocyanate-reactive blend has an OH:NH equivalent ratio of from 1:1 to 15:1. This invention also relates to the polyurethane/urea molded article produced by the above process.

Homogeneous storable mixtures containing small quantities of a potassium halide, having a high mixed hydroxyl number or mixed hydroxyl/amine number and an average functionality of at least 2.0 are made by mixing (a) a polyoxyalkylene polyol and/or polyolamine and/or polyamine based on an alkyloxirane having a molecular weight of from 400 to 12,000 and (b) a low molecular weight polyol which is not completely miscible with (a) wherein these mixtures are reacted with a prepolymer or a polyisocyanate to produce shrink stable thermal break urethanes having good adhesion to substrate properties and wherein the use of such mixtures increases processing flexibility without detrimentally affecting the physical properties of the thermal break urethanes produced.

Polyisocyanate addition products, particularly polyurethane foams having improved flame resistance are obtained by reacting a combustion modified isocyanate with an isocyanate reactive component containing an isocyanate reactive material, a phosphorus containing combustion modifier and a blowing agent. The combustion modified isocyanate is made up of an organic polyisocyanate and a brominated diphenylether.
