The light passed through the specimen is modulated at a predetermined frequency, and only light of the same modulated frequency is measured by a receiver. The apparatus includes automatic zero calibration, and several embodiments of stabilized phototransistor circuits.

摘要: An apparatus for measuring mechanical characteristics of a material capable of transmitting vibration, particularly skin of a living subject. An impulse from a generator such as a small hammer causes a disturbance to propagate a wave along the material. A receiver includes a source of radiation and two photocells spaced apart and isolated from each other. The photocells receive the radiation after reflection from spaced locations on the surface of the material. The travel time of the propagated wave between the two reflection points is measured to determine the speed of wave propagation in the material.

摘要: An apparatus for measuring the consistency or hardness of a material, for example skin tissue on a living body, comprises a support to be applied against the material to be tested and a feeler movably carried by the support for displacement through a distance which will be proportional to the hardness or consistency being measured. To avoid the need for careful positioning of the device on the test material with a carefully constant bearing pressure, a control circuit is provided for recording the displacement of the feeler only when the bearing pressure of the support on the test material has a predetermined value. The reading of the displacement is held and is preferably digital. Application of the support successively to different points on the test material will enable a true comparison of the readings at the various points.

摘要: The invention relates to a method of generating a synthesized image of a hair, comprising the following steps: calculating the shape of the hair by applying a behavioral relationship determining the shape of the hair as a function of a physical parameter linked to a mechanical property of the hair, in particular the linear density; producing an image of the hair of shape that has been calculated in this way. The behavioral relationship may be given by the minimization of the following function: E = K L ⁢ ∫ 0 1 ⁢ [ 1 2 ⁢ ( k ~ ⁡ ( s ~ ) - α ) 2 + 1 β ⁢ z ~ ⁡ ( s ~ ) ] ⁢ ⅆ s ~ , where α=Lk0 and β=K/gμL3, and where L designates the length of the hair, k0 its spontaneous curvature, K its bending moment, μ its linear density and g the acceleration due to gravity, {tilde over (s)} the curvilinear abscissa relative to the length of the hair, {tilde over (k)} its local curvature relative to its length and {tilde over (z)} its height relative to its length.

摘要: A device for evaluating the creasing of the skin in vivo. A zone of the skin to be examined is creased. The zone of the creased skin is scanned with an incident luminous beam which is emitted by a light source. The light reflected by the creased skin is detected. The detected light is converted into an electrical signal. At least one parameter representing the profile of the creased skin is extracted from the electrical signal. This device makes it possible to evaluate the mechanical properties of the dermis, such as its elasticity and firmness and the aging of the skin, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of products intended to counteract such aging.
