摘要: A system for studying a beating explanted heart comprises a fluid inflow circuit configured for coupling to an explanted heart to direct fluid for flowing into a ventricle of the heart, and a fluid outflow circuit configured for coupling to an explanted heart to direct fluid flowing out of the ventricle of the beating heart. A flow meter coupled with the inflow circuit measures the inflow rate of fluid into the heart ventricle and a flow meter coupled with the outflow circuit measures the outflow rate of fluid out of the heart ventricle. A processing system converts the inflow and outflow rates into incremental volume changes in the volume of the heart ventricle and adds and subtracts the incremental volume changes from a relative volume of the heart ventricle to study volume changes in the explanted heart while it is beating.

摘要: A method is for monitoring interaction between a person and his companion and pet. The method can be realized via a data transfer network, a monitoring arrangement used in the method, a server and a computer program to be used in the monitoring arrangements, which are included in the monitoring arrangement. With the method and monitoring arrangement, an interactive event between the companion and person and/or pet can be visualized on a data processing device for a selected time period. The data processing device can be situated in a different location than the persons and pet being monitored. In the method, the latest 3D location measuring data and physiological measuring data of the pet, companion and person are compared to long-term average data. The physiological measuring data is received from wireless monitoring devices carried by the pet, companion and person.

摘要: The dynamic indentation system cyclically indents a test material for the purpose of determining mechanical properties that cannot be measured directly, such as in-plane wall stress in intact hearts. A probe or an end surface thereof cyclically indents the test material while the indentation stress acting on the face of the probe and the position of the probe are measured. The indentations can be servo-controlled for added stability. The transverse stiffness of the material is calculated as the slope of the relation between the indentation stress and indentation strain during each indentation cycle. The transverse stiffness is then used as an estimate of wall stress, and the relation between the transverse stiffness and in-plane strain can be used as a direct estimate of material properties. The dynamic indentation system is suitable for estimating in-plane wall stress and material properties from different parts of a test material. Since the vibrations are high in frequency, any gross movement of the test material or of the probe during the period of one oscillation is very small and does not influence the transverse stiffness. The dynamic indentation system allows, for example, estimation of wall stress throughout the course of a single cardiac contraction.

摘要: Testing apparatus and methods eliminate uncertainties associated with applied kinesiology (AK) evaluation. The invention comprises a housing and a vertical member extending upwardly from the housing. The member includes an upper platform to receive a pressure-applying body part and a lower portion that enters into the housing wherein it is coupled to a device to measure the applied pressure. The measurement device is in communication with a readout on the housing that indicates the applied pressure. The platform, preferably in the form of a cradle, is coupled to a receptacle to hold a food or item to be evaluated. The patient applies a standard measured resistance, and when the item to be tested is held by the patient, the machine measures the decrease in resistance from the body, thereby accurately quantifying the patient's response to the food or other item being tested.
