An optical synthesizer can be used to provide a sequence of frequency tagged light signals so as to substantially mitigate ambiguity associated with received light signals. This results in a desirable reduction in the duration of a duty cycle of the lidar system, thus enhancing the resolution of the lidar system.

    摘要: A method is provided for initiating and sustaining a combustive reaction in a solid fuel. The method includes generating at least one pulsed optical signal and directing the pulsed optical signal to a plurality of ignition points within at least one combustion chamber containing a solid fuel. The pulsed optical signal is generated by an optical source, e.g. a laser pump, and modulated using an intensity profiler. The intensity profiler modulates the pulsed optical signal to initially have a first peak power sufficient to initiate a combustive reaction in a solid fuel. The intensity profiler further modulates the pulsed optical signal to subsequently have a second peak power sufficient to sustain the combustive reaction until sufficient exothermic energy is released by the combustive reaction to make the reaction self-sustaining.

    摘要: A first control optics assembly receives an incoming optical image. A template optical element produces a template optical intensity profile. A second control optics assembly receives the template optical intensity profile. A polarization separator receives an output from the second control optics. A quarter wave plate changes the polarization of the polarized output therefrom. A combiner receives an output from the first control optics assembly and an output from the quarter wave plate and provides a combined, co-linear propagation output image having an initial beam size. An SLM provides absorption of a portion of the combined output image which changes the local index of refraction of the SLM so that the local reflection at the template optical intensity profile changes. The template optical intensity profile reproduces the image of the absorbed portion as an outgoing image that is reflected back through a portion of the system providing a converted image having substantially the same intensity pattern as the incoming optical image but a different wavelength.

    摘要: An integrated circuit formed on a substrate suitably includes a number of superconducting junctions. Each superconducting junction includes a first superconducting material disposed upon the substrate, an insulating material formed on the first superconducting material, and a second superconducting material formed on the insulating material to create a Josephson junction. The second superconducting material is a different material from the first superconducting material to aid in manufacturability. Any number of electrically conductive interconnects are also provided to interlink the superconducting junctions to thereby form the integrated circuit. Examples of superconducting materials that may be used for the various layers include YBaCu3O7-y (YBCO) and Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy (Bi2212). Various circuits and techniques relating to superconducting devices are also described.
