    摘要: An object of the present invention is to make it possible to record information on an optical information recording medium in the form of three dimensional interference patterns so that the information is erasable in part.The optical information recording medium (1) has an information recording layer (3) made of a magneto-optic recording material. A pick-up (11) of an optical information recording/reproducing apparatus generates information light by spatially modulating laser light emitted from a light source unit (20) with a spatial light modulator (22), and generates recording-specific reference light spatially modulated in phase by spatially modulating the phase of the laser light emitted from the light source (20) with a phase-spatial light modulator (16). The information recording layer (3) of the optical information recording medium (1) is irradiated with the information light and the recording-specific reference light. An electromagnetic coil (30) applies a magnetic field to the information recording layer (3). A three-dimensional distribution pattern of magnetization corresponding to the interference pattern resulting from the information light and the recording-specific reference light is formed in the information recording layer (3).

    摘要: A hologram transducer using the Faraday effect in magnetic bubble devices for recording and reproducing the amplitude and phase distributions over a section of a beam of coherent light is disclosed. The transducer spatially modulates the intensity, by using linear polarization, and the phase, by using circular polarization, of light transmitted through a magnetic bubble device. Using linear polarization and a single magnetic bubble domain to traverse in a sequence the possible storage positions in the magnetic bubble device, the transducer samples at each of these positions the intensity of the transmitted light. Using in addition a coherent reference beam of light to interfere with the light being measured, the transducer samples the phase in the half range of 0 through .pi. radians at these positions. Further, using a quarter cycle phase shift in the reference beam, the transducer resolves the phase values over the full range of 0 through 2.pi. radians. Because of the localization of the sample values by the magnetic bubbles to the order of the wavelength of the light, optical holograms may be directly recorded as electrical signals by the transducer and the corresponding images reconstructed by the transducer from the electrical signals.

    摘要: A holographic optical memory utilizes an optical heterodyne technique to significantly increase the signal-to-noise ratio during the readout stage of operation. A light source provides a coherent light beam which is split into a readout beam and a local oscillator beam. The readout beam is directed to one of the holograms stored in the memory medium and a portion of the read out beam is diffracted by the hologram to form a reconstructed image of the bit pattern stored in the hologram at the reconstructed image plane. The local oscillator beam is superimposed with the diffracted portion of the readout beam. An optical frequency translator is positioned in either the readout beam or the local oscillator beam to cause the beams to have different optical frequencies. Therefore, when the two beams are superimposed, a beat frequency signal is produced. An array of detectors is positioned at the reconstructed image plane to receive the superimposed beams. Each detector of the array is positioned to receive the light representing one bit of the bit pattern and to provide an output signal indicative of the intensity of the beat frequency signal received.

    摘要: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing a more robust flat panel display by using the Faraday effect to control light emission from a solid state material so as to form two-dimensional or three-dimensional images. Flux tubes can be configured to define a two dimensional array. Each flux tube is somewhat analogous to a single bubble of a magnetic bubble memory and can define a pixel. At least some aspect of light transmitted through a flux tube can be varied thereby, so as to facilitate the formation of an image.
