    摘要: Methods and Systems for controlling boiler systems are disclosed. In one illustrative embodiment, a derivative action control is used reduce the likelihood of overshoot from a newly activated boiler. When a newly activated boiler becomes active, the boiler is held at a low firing rate for a predetermined period of time. The predetermined period of time may be cut short or even entirely eliminated under certain conditions. The methods and devices are further adapted for use in multi-stage boiler systems. In one embodiment, only the first stage of a multi-stage boiler system that becomes active is held at the low firing rate.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for the control of power consumption in individual space-conditioning loads fed by an electric power network utilizes a commandable, programmable temperature control device which gradually, substantially continually changes the control setpoint in response to an external signal to reduce power consumption such that temperature changes go relatively unnoticed by the occupants. A radio receiver or the like is utilized to receive a signal from the power utility company and, in response to the signal, the setpoint function of the thermostat associated with the load becomes an electronically simulated function in accordance with the invention and the user-control setpoint is removed from the control loop. The effective load shedding is also greatly enhanced by the provision of an integral reset function in addition to the conventional proportional control within the temperature control system. The use of a plurality of such systems enables the power utility to control electric power network peak load with a minimum impact on the comfort of individuals in the conditioned spaces.

    摘要: An airflow sensor including a housing, a flexible substrate, and electrical components. The housing defines an internal compartment and a top face opening. The substrate includes circuitry traces, and defines a front and a back. The substrate is disposed within the compartment such that the back is exposed relative to the opening. The electrical components are electrically connected to the circuitry traces, extending from the front of the substrate opposite the opening, and include a heated temperature sensor spaced from a baseline temperature sensor. During use, airflow interfaces with the substrate back to cool the heated temperature sensor. The extent of this cooling as compared to the baseline temperature sensor is indicative of airflow. The system and method include detecting the presence or absence of airflow based upon a temperature differential between the temperature sensors as well as a rate of change in the temperature differential.

    摘要: A humidity control system for an enclosure requiring heat from a furnace and having one or more windows, includes sensors for the enclosure temperature and humidity, and a means for measuring the percentage of time which the furnace is operating (load factor). The system estimates the interior window temperature based on these parameters and controls humidity added to the enclosure air to prevent the enclosure air dew point temperature from rising above the estimated window temperature. This prevents condensation on the window surfaces. The estimation can be adjusted to compensate for different insulation characteristics of the window. In a preferred embodiment, the enclosure air temperature and humidity are derived from sensors conveniently located in the return air duct.

Further methods include bypass temperature control methods wherein both regular and fast control methods are used, where the regular method operates to control bypass temperature by using, first, a bypass valve, and second, possible increases in firing rate. The fast control method responds to particular situations suggesting potential condensation in a primary heat exchanger to increase firing rate without waiting for a bypass valve to fully open. Further embodiments include controllers programmed for or containing programming for performing steps of the method embodiments, as well as systems incorporating such controllers.

    摘要: An apparatus for power load-shedding is disclosed which has an auxiliary thermostat disposed in the conditioned space for controlling the CN-OFF cycling function of a space conditioning apparatus during a load-shedding interval. The auxiliary thermostat includes an external communication signal receiver and a transmitter for transmitting control signals to a space conditioner control which controls the connection of available power to the space conditioner. The thermostat utilized during normal operation of the space conditioning means is disconnected during the load-shedding interval. The auxiliary thermostat is adapted to be supplied with line voltage as by plugging into a conventional outlet.
