To protect the exhaust gas recirculation system along with intake air components and the internal combustion engine from the corrosive effects of the exhaust gas condensate, the exhaust gas recirculation system has at least one neutralization unit for neutralizing the corrosive constituents of the exhaust gas condensate, which is connected to at least one component arranged downstream, through which the exhaust gas, which has been freed of nearly all corrosive constituents, flows.

The flow conduit (1) has a traversable cross-section, running transversally to a flow conduit axis (94) and designed to conduct the first fluid (31) in the interior (67). The aim of the invention is to guarantee an improved transfer of heat with a simultaneous acceptable pressure drop, whilst reducing the blocking risk. To achieve this, a hydraulic diameter, defined as the quadruple of the ratio of the surface area of the traversable cross-section to a circumference that can be wetted by the fluid, lies within a range of 1.5 mm to 6 mm. The invention discloses a heat exchanger (30, 40) that has a block containing a number of flow conduits (41, 41′, 61, 61′, 71, 71′, 81, 81′, 91, 91′) of this type, which are traversed by the first fluid (31) and are fluidically connected to a fluid connection. The invention also relates to a charge air system, an exhaust gas recirculation system and to the use of said heat exchanger.
