The DC voltage outputs of active rectifiers are connected to each other in series. A medium voltage DC (MVDC) collection network comprises positive pole cables and negative pole cables, wherein each positive pole cable is connected to the positive DC voltage output of a first active rectifier and each negative pole cable is connected to the negative DC voltage output of a last active rectifier. A substation receives the negative and positive pole cables of the MVDC collection network for further transformation and transmission.

Connection schemes for offshore power generation with an internal collection grid include a power generation system which includes a plurality of generator-rectifier subsystems. The scheme further includes a medium voltage DC (MVDC) collection network with positive pole cables and negative pole cables connected to the DC outputs of the generator-rectifier subsystems. At least one offshore substation includes a positive bus bar and a negative bus bar correspondingly connected to the positive pole cables and negative pole cables of the MVDC collection network and a plurality of main DC-DC converters. Each main DC-DC converter includes multiple modules connected to the MVDC bus bars and each module has a positive and a negative output such that the modules' outputs are serially connected to one another. The schemes may also include a high voltage DC (HVDC) transmission system connected to the modules' outputs and at least one DC/AC converter at an onshore substation.

A method of assembling a magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) device includes providing a substrate having an opening. A tape is applied to a surface of the substrate and a first magnetic shield is placed onto the tape and within the substrate opening. An adhesive is applied between the first magnetic shield and the substrate to attach the first magnetic shield to the substrate. An MRAM die is attached to the first magnetic shield and bond pads of the MRAM die are connected to pads on the substrate with wires. A second magnetic shield is attached to a top surface of the MRAM die. An encapsulating material is dispensed onto the substrate, the MRAM die, the second magnetic shield and part of the first magnetic shield, cured, and then the tape is removed. Solder balls then may be attached to the substrate.

A method is described for the real-time detection of Salmonella species in foods and on surfaces. Salmonella are enriched in media to increase their cell density prior to analysis. DNA is recovered by lysis in the presence of azide, proteinase K, and detergent. Real-time detection of Salmonella species is performed in a PCR reaction using gene specific primers and a cleavable chimeric fluorescent probe. The method also describes an internal control to confirm the efficiency of nucleic acid amplification and detection. The method is amenable to medium and high throughput analysis.

Wireless sensing units, methods, systems, and processor-readable media for obtaining pressure data relating to one or more pressure locations of a surface area are described. A wireless sensing system includes a pressure monitoring device communicating with modular wireless smart floor tiles using RFID, either using an RFID reader or wireless network interface (e.g., 802.11). The tiles incorporate passive or active RFID tags. The tiles can be powered wirelessly, e.g. by a built-in piezoelectric power unit or by a wireless power source using magnetic resonance. A data capture circuit in each tile collects and saves the data for transmission to the floor pressure monitoring device. Various software applications can be enabled by the smart floor system, including fall detection and prediction, gesture input, intrusion detection, and user location tracking for smart home automation.

The ability to process tool shaft gestures may improve one or both of the operation of the device and the user experience with the device.
