A method for operating an optical projection system including projection optics is disclosed. The projection optics project an image of the object on the substrate at an image distance from the projection optics. The image has a size dependent on the size of the object and the ratio of the image distance to the optical distance of the object from the projection optics. The image distance can change with changes in the condition of the projection optics such as changes in the temperature of elements of the projection optics. The image distance is monitored. If the image distance changes, the substrate is moved to the new image distance and the optical distance of the object is correspondingly changed such that the ratio of the image distance to the object distance stays the same.

The invention describes novel polymer-functionalized carbon nanotubes. These comprise a carbon nanotube, a first polymer that is adsorbed on the outer surface of a carbon nanotube and comprises amino groups, and a second polymer covalently bonded to the first polymer. The bond between the second polymer and the first polymer is formed by the reaction of amino groups from the first polymer with groups from the second polymer that are reactive with respect to amino groups. The invention further relates to a method for the production thereof, wherein carbon nanotubes are provided in an aqueous solution of a first polymer comprising amino groups and then a solution of a second polymer comprising groups that are reactive with respect to amino groups is added. The invention also relates to the use of the carbon nanotubes in dispersions, polymers and surface coatings.

The present invention provides laser beam micro-smoothing for laser annealing systems. Laser beam micro-smoothing comprises shifting a laser beam in the direction perpendicular to the scanning direction (y) of a laser annealing system, while holding the laser beam fixed in the direction of scanning (x). The shifting may be accomplished, for example, with a pair of micro-smoothing mirrors. The shifting smoothes out small-scale inhomogeneities in the profile of the laser beam and prevents microscopic stripes associated with prior art laser annealing systems. Because the shifting occurs only in the direction perpendicular to the scanning direction (y), the laser annealing process in not adversely affected.

Apparatus includes mechanism whereby a user-operator is able to enter a code. Entry of a correct code serves as indication that a payment has been made and enables further use of the equipment. On failure to timely make payments, a user is prevented from using the equipment as the apparatus is arranged to disable the equipment by way of the critical system to which it is coupled. Both a user-operator interface and critical system interruption circuit are coupled to a logic processor which is easily mounted onto equipment subject to the program.
