    摘要: An autonomous blower is described that utilizes GPS signals for blowing ground debris from a clearable area to a target area. A controller coordinates motors that propel and steer the autonomous blower. A database created in a teaching mode defines clearable, target, and no-trespassing areas with respect to GPS coordinates. An algorithm in the controller computes a serpentine trajectory for the autonomous blower so that it traverses the clearable area while transporting ground debris to the target area.

    摘要: An apparatus to transfer heat from a heat source to a heat sink, the apparatus consisting of a solid thermal conveyer proximate to the heat source and the heat sink. Heat from the heat source is transferred to the thermal conveyer; this heat is conveyed by the thermal conveyer, and this heat is then transferred to the heat sink. An external means moves the solid thermal conveyer with respect to the heat source and the heat sink. Heat from the heat source can be transferred to the thermal conveyer by radiation, by conduction through mechanical contact, and by conduction or convection through an intermediate thermal transfer fluid. In one embodiment the area through which heat is transferred from the solid thermal conveyer to the heat sink is substantially greater than the area through which heat is transferred from the heat source to the solid thermal conveyer. In another embodiment the thermal conveyer transports heat a distance that is large compared to the dimensions of the heat source and of the heat sink.

The air blower acts together with a tilted rotary rake to dislodge and impel the debris. A motor driven chassis transports the blower and the rotary rake across the lawn. The present invention is directed to an energetically efficient device for moving debris on a surface, such as leaves on a lawn.

    摘要: A method and an apparatus for detecting removable particulates initially on a test surface or surface to be inspected. The removable particles are transferred to a portion of a tacky surface on a carrier by adhering and then removing the portion of the tacky surface from the test surface. The carrier is received by a positioning means and passed through the field of view of a surface inspection means guided by a controller. Signals from the surface inspection means are combined with coordinates from the controller to produce particle coordinates, which indicate particulates initially on the test surface. Particle coordinates on the tacky surface measured before the tacky surface is adhered and removed from the test surface can be compared with particle coordinates measured after the tacky surface is adhered and removed from the test surface. Several test surfaces can be sequentially inspected using the same carrier by storing particle coordinates after each measurement and comparing the most recent measurement with the cumulative previous measurements. The tacky surface and the associated particle coordinates can be conveyed to other analytical instruments for subsequent analysis.

    摘要: An electrically operated apparatus and method for altering the flow resistance experienced by a thermoplastic passing through a flow channel using one or more thermal valves having a short response time is described. The extrudate configuration of thermoplastic emerging from one or more extrusion orifices is alterable by selectively opening one or more of thermal valves that supply thermoplastic to the one or more extrusion orifices. Each thermal valve is cooled by a heat sink and has an associated heater responsive to control signals. Each heater is independently activated in synchronization with movement of the apparatus in a predetermined spatial pattern with respect to a base. By extruding thermoplastic onto a base layer-by-layer in this manner, a three-dimensional object may be formed.

    摘要: An improved extrusion-based manufacturing system includes one or more extruders, with each extruder containing at least two stages of increasing pressurization. In a preferred embodiment, a first stage of pressurization is created by the motion of a solid wafer of thermoplastic through an orifice into a heater chamber. In another preferred embodiment, the wafers are stored in removable, electronically tagged, cassettes and are removed therefrom by a stapler mechanism which feeds the wafers from the cassette to a tractor feed mechanism on demand. In each embodiment, a second stage of pressurization is provided by a pump, with the first stage pressurization maintaining a flow of thermoplastic to the pump under all expected pump rates.
