摘要: The invention is directed to gassing stabilized aqueous coating compositions comprising A) a metallic pigment and at least one reaction product of: (a) 5 to 95 weight percent of a at least one phosphonic acid derivative selected form compound I and II wherein R1 is H or O═P(OH)2; R2 and R3 are independently H, OH or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and aromatic substituent having 1 to 25 carbon atoms and optionally up to 10 heteroatoms of at least one of oxygen and phosphorus; and R′ is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and aromatic substituent having 1 to 25 carbon atoms and optionally up to 10 heteroatoms of at least one of oxygen and phosphorus; (b) 5 to 95 weight percent of a at least one compound having at least two epoxy groups and a number average molecular weight Mn of 300 to 5000 g/mol; and (c) 0 to 90 weight percent of a compound having one epoxy-functional group, wherein the proportions by weight of components (a), (b) and (c) total 100 weight percent. B) at least one metallic pigment.

摘要: This invention provides for an aqueous metallic flake containing coating composition having improved glamour. The coating composition includes a neutralized phosphated segmented copolymer dispersed in an aqueous carrier. The phosphorous moiety in the segmented copolymer passivates the metallic flakes, such as aluminum flakes, used to produce the glamour. As a result, generation of hydrogen gas is substantially reduced. The segmented copolymer is provided with hydrophobic and nonionic hydrophilic segments. Applicants have discovered that by including a nonionic hydrophilic segment in the segmented copolymer, glamour of the resultant coating composition can be improved. Furthermore, by controlling the molar ratio of the hydrophobic segment to the hydrophilic segment in the segmented copolymer and the solubility parameter of the hydrophobic segment, applicants have discovered that it is possible to use either a non-passivated aluminum flake or pre-passivated aluminum flake in the coating composition while improving glamour over conventional metallic paints and still maintaining the dispersion stability of the composition. As a result, formulator has substantial leeway in selecting from a wide array of environmentally acceptable solvents, film forming binders and components, which are typically added to a coating composition for improving the coating properties. The composition is most suited for use in automotive OEM and refinish metallic paints.

摘要: The invention concerns a graft copolymer emulsion which is anionically stabilized and which contains an amino-functional monomer. The graft copolymer, useful in a coating composition, has a weight average molecular weight of at least about 3,000 and comprises 20 to 95 weight percent of a polymer backbone and 5 to 80 weight percent of a macromonomer. The polymer backbone further comprises 0.5 to 30 weight percent of an amino-functional monomer and the macromonomer comprises at least about 5 weight percent of an unsaturated acid-functional monomer.
