摘要: A device comprising a substrate having a surface that comprises a conductive base layer. The device also comprises fluid-support-structures on the conductive base layer. Each of the fluid-support-structures has at least one dimension of about 1 millimeter or less. Each of the fluid-support-structures is coated with an electrical insulator. The device is configured to oscillate a fluid locatable between tops of the fluid-support-structures and the conductive base layer when a voltage is applied between the conductive base layer and the fluid.

摘要: A method and system of predictive threat detection is provided which utilizes data collected via a ubiquitous sensor network spread over a plurality of sites in an urban environment. The method includes the steps of: triggering an inquiry regarding a suspect entity at a current site in response to commission of a triggering action by the suspect entity; in response to the inquiry, compiling the data corresponding to the sites at which the suspect entity was detected by the sensor network; and analyzing the data to determine a threat status regarding the suspect entity.

摘要: A nanostructured substrate is disclosed having a plurality of substrate openings disposed between the nanostructures on the substrate. When a desired fluid comes into contact with the substrate, at least a portion of the fluid is allowed to pass through at least one of the openings. In a first embodiment, the fluid is caused to pass through the openings by causing the fluid to penetrate the nanostructures. In a second embodiment, the substrate is a flexible substrate so that when a mechanical force is applied to the substrate, such as a bending or stretching force, the distance between nanoposts or the diameter of nanocells on the substrate increases and the liquid penetrates the nanostructures. In another embodiment, a first fluid, such as water, is prevented from penetrating the nanostructures on the substrate while a second fluid is permitted to pass through the substrate via the openings in the substrate.

摘要: A braid-removing tool. The inventive tool comprises an elongate body portion having a longitudinal axis, a first end and a second end and being adapted for retention by a human hand. An elongate tooth is mounted at the first end of the body portion along an axis which is aparallel with respect to the longitudinal axis. In a specific embodiment, the inventive tool further comprises a hook mounted at the second end of the body portion. A finger grip is molded into a first side of the body portion and left and right thumb grooves are molded into a second side of the body portion. The tool allows a user to rapidly and safely remove braids with a simple turn of the wrist.
