The resin compositions thus obtained have good compatibility and give molded products having superior transparency and good mechanical properties.

Provided are polyvinyl ester macromonomers (A) having excellent polymerizability and highly controlled composition, structure and distribution of polymerization degree.Also provided are polyvinyl alcohol macromonomers (B) obtained by solvolysis of the above polyvinyl ester macromonomers (A) and having excellent polymerizability and highly controlled composition, structure and distribution of polymerization degree.Further provided are polymers (C) obtained by polymerization of the above polyvinyl ester macromonomers (A) and containing units from polyvinyl ester macromonomers having highly controlled composition, structure and distribution of polymerization degree. These polymers (C) are useful as compatibility improving agents, surface improving agents and like agents.Still further provided are polymers (D) obtained by solvolysis of the above polymers (C) or by polymerization or copolymerization of the above polyvinyl alcohol macromonomers (B) and containing units from polyvinyl alcohol macromonomers having highly controlled composition, structure and distribution of polymerization degree. These polymers (D) are useful for decreasing viscosity of aqueous solutions of polymers at high concentrations, improving surface, preventing static charge and the like.

Provided is a resin composition comprising 1-99% by weight of a modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (C) having an ethylene content of 5-55 mol %, which contains a specific structural unit (I) in an amount of 0.3-40 mol % and can be obtained by reacting an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (A) with a monofunctional epoxy compound (B) having a molecular weight of not more than 500, and 1-99% by weight of a thermoplastic resin (T1) other than (C). Moreover, a multilayer structure in which the resin composition and a thermoplastic resin (T2) are laminated is also provided. Thus, a resin composition superior in barrier properties, transparency, stretchability, flexibility, flexing resistance and interlayer adhesiveness and various kinds of molded articles made thereof are provided.

A styrene/hydrogenated diene block copolymer characterized in that it has in side chains at least one kind of functional groups selected from the group consisting of a boronic acid group and a boron-containing group capable of converting into a boronic acid group in the presence of water, the content of the functional groups in the copolymer is 100 to 2,000 μeq/g, and the weight ratio of the styrene units to hydrogenated diene units contained in the copolymer is from 5/95 to 70/30. By thus incorporating a sufficient amount of boron-containing groups, a highly reactive styrene/hydrogenated diene block copolymer is provided.
