A method for producing L-threonine using a microorganism is provided. In the method, additional one or more copies of each of the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (ppc) gene and the threonine operon are integrated into a particular site of the chromosomal DNA of a microorganism, while its inherent ppc gene and threonine operon remain. Accordingly, two or more ppc genes and threonine operons are included in the chromosomal DNA of the microorganism to thereby enhance the expression of the ppc gene encoding an enzyme to convert phosphoenolpyruvate to a threonine biosynthesis precursor, oxaloacetete, and the genes encoding enzymes involved in the synthetic pathway of threonine from oxaloacetate, including thrA (aspartokinasel-homoserine dehydrogenase), thrB (homoserine kinase), and thrC (threonine synthase), thereby markedly increasing L-threonine productivity.

A filtering face mask 10 that has a harness 14 and a mask body 12. The mask body 12 is structured such that a snug facial fit can be achieved without use of additional components such as an elastomeric face seal, nose foam, or nose clip. The mask body 12 includes a filtering structure 18 and a cup-shaped shaping layer 20 where the latter comprises a closed cell foam layer that has a plurality of fluid permeable openings located in it. The openings occupy at least 30% of the total surface area of the shaping layer, including a mid region of the shaping layer. The filtering structure is coextensively disposed over the shaping layer. The shaping layer 20 makes contact with the wearer's face at the mask body perimeter 19 when the respirator is being worn. Despite the open nature of the foam shaping layer over much of its surface area, the use of a foam shaping layer, in conjunction with a coextensive filtering structure, provides sufficient structural integrity or stiffness to prevent mask body collapse during respirator use while also exhibiting a low pressure drop to allow for low breathing resistance and extended wearer comfort.

The negative active material includes a compound represented by the Formula Li1+xV1-x-yMyO2+z. In one embodiment, the compound has an average particle size ranging from about 50 nm to about 30 μm. In another embodiment, the negative active material has a ratio of (003) plane diffraction intensity to (104) plane diffraction intensity ranging from about 1:1 to about 1:0.01 when measured using a Cu K α X-ray. According to another embodiment, after five charge/discharge cycles performed at 0.5C, a specific surface area of the negative active material increases to less than about 20 times a specific surface area before the five charge/discharge cycles. The negative active materials may improve battery capacity, and cycle-life characteristics.
