摘要: An ignition system including a plasma jet spark plug, a discharge power source, and an energy input portion. The spark plug includes a center electrode inserted and installed in the axis hole of an insulator, a ground electrode forming a clearance with the center electrode in between, and a cavity defined by an inner peripheral surface of the axis hole and a top end surface of the center electrode. A plasma is generated in the cavity as the discharge power source generates a spark discharge by applying a voltage to the clearance and the energy input portion inputs electric power into the clearance. The energy input portion inputs electric power into the clearance more than once in a single spark discharge.

The plasma jet ignition plug comprises a center electrode wherein at least a front end portion including a front end surface of the center electrode contains an oxide of at least one of the rare earth elements in a total amount of 0.5% by mass to 10% by mass inclusive and tungsten (W) in an amount of 90% by mass or greater, or contains iridium (Ir) in an amount of 0.3% by mass to 3% by mass inclusive and W in an amount of 97% by mass or greater.

摘要: An ignition device for a plasma jet ignition plug is provided. A resistance for decreasing electric noises is not incorporated in a plasma jet ignition plug. A resistance of not less than 1KΩ and not more than 20KΩ is provided to a path from a spark discharge circuit to a center electrode, thus reducing the generation of electric noises at the time of trigger discharge. Along with the reduction of the generation of electric noises, a loss of energy at the time of plasma discharge can be reduced by setting an inner resistance provided to a line extending to the center electrode from a plasma discharge circuit to 1Ω or less. Accordingly, the plasma jet ignition plug can jet flame-shaped plasma sufficiently large for igniting an air-fuel mixture.

A ground electrode of a plasma jet ignition plug projects inward from a front end face of a metallic shell toward an opening end of a cavity which is open at a front end face of an insulator. A projecting distal end which forms a spark discharge gap between the same and a center electrode within a cavity is located inward, with respect to a diametral direction P orthogonal to an axis O, of a position which is located 0.5 mm radially outward from the opening end of the cavity.

摘要: A transmission method uses multiple kinds of control codes to be exchanged on a serial transmission path between a sender side and a receiver side, and each of the multiple kinds of control codes has bits smaller in number than a predetermined fixed length. The transmission method includes the steps of inspecting the received bit string in groups of bits of the number of the control code, and thereby determining whether one of the multiple kinds of control codes is present in the serial signal received on the serial transmission path or not, selecting the control code to be sent based on a result of the determination in the determining step, sending, onto the serial transmission path, a bit string containing at least the control code to be sent based on the result of the determination in the determining step, and receiving the data code by inspecting the received bit string in groups of bits of the fixed length in response to the detection of the control code indicating the start of transmission of the data from the opposite side in the determining step.
