The formation of the ink receiving layer includes: coating the support with a first liquid containing a water-soluble resin, a cross-linking agent and a first metal compound, to form a coating layer on the support; and applying, to the coating layer, a second liquid containing a second metal compound (1) at the same time as the coating of the first liquid, or (2) before the coating layer formed by coating the first liquid exhibits a decreasing rate of drying during drying of the coating layer, to harden the coating layer by cross-linking.
