摘要: Instrumentation for a modular prosthesis having a stem and a neck comprises a handle and an adaptor. The handle extends along an axis. The handle has a distal end and a proximal end. The proximal end has a blunt surface configured to be struck. The adaptor has a male end configured to mate inside the bore of the stem. The adaptor further has a surface configured to mate with the distal end of the handle. The adaptor is configured to have a medial portion and a lateral portion. The medial portion has a relief such that the adaptor is configured to disengage the stem when the adaptor is rotated relative the stem.

摘要: A method for forming an implant for a bone comprises the step (20) of generating a first general shape for the implant having a length extending along a long axis of the bone. A step (40) determines an area moment of inertia of a cross section of the implant. Step (40) also determines an area moment of inertia for a cross section of bone coplanar to the cross section of the implant. A percent stress shielding is calculated (50) from the area moments of inertia of the implant and the bone. A step (60) compares the calculated percent stress shielding to a preset threshold. Iteratively, additional general shapes are generated (80) for the implant by locally adjusting the cross section of the implant until the calculated percent stress shielding meets the preset threshold.

摘要: An acetabular liner insertion guide (10) aligns a liner (12) within an acetabular shell. The liner includes a ring (16) and a penetrable layer (14). The ring includes a lip configured to rest on an upper surface of the acetabular shell. The ring is also configured to attach to the liner such that an upper surface of the liner is in a plane that is generally parallel to a plane that includes the upper surface of the acetabular shell. The penetrable layer is configured to receive an impactor and overlie the liner. When the insertion guide is placed on the shell and the impactor impacts the liner, the insertion guide separates from the liner and remains on the impactor.

摘要: An adjustable impactor for a tool comprises a handle, a first link, and a second link. The first link is pivotably attached to the handle. The second link is pivotably attached to the first link. The second link has a connector configured to attach to the tool. A method for impacting an orthopaedic component inside a surgical cavity includes a step for pivoting a first link relative to a handle. Another step pivots a second link relative to the first link. The first and second links are locked. A step attaches a tool to the second link. An impacting step impacts the handle such that the handle transmits the force from the impact through the first and second links to the tool.

摘要: A childbirth instrument and method of use. The instrument may have guide and/or guard portions with concave posterior sides, and may have one or more grips. The guide may have first, second, and third elongated reference slots for performing episiotomy cuts therethrough, with the reference slots locating the angle and position of the episiotomy cuts, and the guard provides protection for the unborn infant. Another embodiment has one or more apertures through which a hypodermic needle may deliver a local anesthetic prior to making episiotomy cuts. The instrument may have one or more grips, which may be removable, and may have a movable stop and/or guide aperture. The angle of the episiotomy cut may be adjusted with one embodiment. The guide and guard portions may separate. Finger-receiving portions may be provided on the guard.
