In one embodiment, a vertebral implant may include an assembly configured to be secured to a first vertebral body, wherein the assembly includes a frame made of a first material and at least one end plate made of a second material different than the first material; a reducing plate configured to be slidably received over the central portion, wherein the reducing plate is configured to be secured to a second vertebral body; and an actuator configured to move the reducing plate relative to the frame.

摘要: The lined femoral cup of the invention is used in a new reverse hip prosthesis wherein the cup is affixed to the femur and the ball is affixed to the acetabulum. This permits installation of the liner in the factory instead of the operating room. Prior art hip prostheses require installation of the liner in the operating room because the cup must be affixed to the acetabulum, usually by screws, before the liner can be installed. Thus, in a preferred embodiment of the invention the liner is installed under high pressure in the factory. In a second embodiment, a threaded cap is used which permits replacement of the liner without removing the cup from the patient.

摘要: A spacer device for spinal fixation, such as in corpectomies and discectomies, includes a core and two end plates mounted to the core. One end plate is mounted to each respective end of the core. The core can be configured and adapted to be adjustable to allow for contraction and/or distraction of the end plates. The end plates can include apertures therethrough to facilitate osseointegration of the spacer device within a patient's spine. The angle of the endplates can each be adjusted with respect to the core of the spacer device, for example to accommodate lordosis. A containment mesh is included around the spacer device, wrapping circumferentially around the end plates, and spanning from end plate to end plate. The containment mesh defines a containment volume between the end plates for containing bone replacement materials such as allograft or man-made materials.

摘要: Laterally expanding vertebral spacer devices are provided for repairing damaged vertebral discs. The vertebral spacer devices maintain the height of a distracted vertebral disc space while providing stability to the spine. In one form of the invention, a vertebral spacer device is provided with a first arm movably coupled to a second arm. The first and second arms are laterally expandable from a first width for insertion into the disc space to a second width after insertion into the disc space. The first and second arms also define a cavity therebetween for placement of bone growth material.

摘要: A modular hip implant is disclosed that includes a base member that is to be attached to a pelvic bone, and a cup for accommodating a hip joint prosthesis. The base member is provided with fasteners for mounting the base member on the pelvic bone as well as a concave accommodation portion for the cup. The cup has a convex outer shape which is complementary to the accommodation portion such that the radii of curvature determining the concave accommodation portion and the convex outer form essentially correspond to each other and the cup can be attached within the base member. The base member and/or the cup include adjustment means for adjusting the position of the cup relative to the base member. The invention allows the inclination and anteversion to be adjusted by arranging the cup in the base.

摘要: An interbody spinal fusion implant for insertion across a disc space between adjacent vertebral bodies of a human spine has a body two top side and two bottom side junctions, with at least a pair of diagonally opposed junctions having a distance therebetween that does not significantly exceed the implant body height. The implant also includes one or more bone penetrating protrusions extending outwardly from at least the upper and lower walls of the implant. The implant is inserted on its side between adjacent vertebral bodies and then rotated 90 degrees into place. The protrusions penetrate the endplates upon rotation, thereby securing the implant within the spine. The implant has at least one passage therethrough from the upper wall to the lower wall to promote fusion through the implant. Because of the specialized opposed junctions overdistraction between the adjacent vertebral bodies is avoided when the implant is rotated from an initial insertion position to a final deployed position. In one suggested implant set, two implants are rotated in opposite directions into their respective final deployed positions, and a third specialized implant is positioned therebetween to lock the three implants together along cooperating surfaces. A method for deploying the push-in implants is also disclosed.
