    摘要: Adhesive active finish compositions for synthetic reinforcing members to bond the latter to vulcanizable rubber and reinforcing members for vulcanizable rubber. The adhesive composition comprises a water soluble epoxy compound, from about 20 to 100 parts by weight of a trialkanolamine having from 3 to about 15 carbon atoms and from about 0 to 80 parts by weight of a polyol co-curative having from 2 to about 15 carbon atoms and having at least 2 primary hydroxyls per molecule, wherein the stoichiometric ratio of hydroxyl groups to epoxy groups from the water soluble epoxy compound ranges from about 1:0.7 to 1:0.0003. A method of reinforcing articles of vulcanizable rubber with fibrous members includes the steps of applying to the fibrous member a first coating of the adhesive active finish; applying a second coating comprising resorcinol, formaldehyde and a rubber latex over the first coating; embedding the coated fibrous member in the vulcanizable rubber and, vulcanizing the rubber. Synthetic reinforcing yarns containing the adhesive active finish and a method for their production are also disclosed.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a method of reducing hydrolysis and coupling of substituents of siloxane end capped polymers containing hydrolyzable substituents during contact with water. The Mooney viscosity of siloxane terminated polymers is stabilized during such contact by treating the polymer with a stabilizing amount of stabilizing agent selected from the group consisting of: an acid, an acyl halide, methane sulfonic acid, toluene sulfonic acid, sulfuryl chloride, thionylchloride, phosgene, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, sulfur trioxide, SOCl.sub.2 and SO.sub.2 Cl.sub.2, prior to contacting the siloxane terminated polymer with water.

    摘要: The present disclosure is directed to tire rubber compositions containing at least one rubbery polymer (with 10 to 100 weight percent of monomer units derived from conjugated diene monomer having between 4 and 8 carbon atoms and 0 to 90 weight percent of monomer units derived from vinyl aromatic monomer); 0.5 to 100 phr of silica filler; 0.05 to 20 phr of a bi-functional silica coupling agent; and 1 to 30 phr of a non-elastomer reactive filler reinforcing agent capable of interacting with at least two silica particles. The bi-functional silica coupling agent and the filler reinforcing agent are utilized in a weight ratio of from 1:100 to 1:0.2. Also disclosed are methods for preparing the tire rubber compositions.

    摘要: A method is presented for making an amino alkoxy-modified silsesquioxane (amino AMS) comprising one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of an amino-AMS, an amino/mercaptan co-AMS, an amino/blocked mercaptan co-AMS, and mixtures of these. The use of solid strong cationic catalysts in this reaction system is advantageous because the catalyst remains as a solid throughout the reaction, allowing simplified separation of the solid catalyst from the soluble amino AMS or amino co-AMS products, resulting in total or near total recovery of the amino AMS or amino co-AMS products, as well as virtual total recovery of the catalyst for recycling. The use of the solid strong cationic catalysts is advantageous because it results in amino AMS products that are free of, or substantially free of, residual acid catalyst.

    摘要: The invention provides vulcanizable rubber compound having improved tensile mechanical and dynamic viscoelastic properties. The compounds are formed by mixing an elastomer, containing unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds in its molecular structure, with a reinforcing inorganic filler silica in the presence of an alkyl alkoxysilane and a non-sulfur coupling agent that binds to the rubber backbone with an “ene” linkage or a 1,3 dipolar addition linkage. In particular, the coupling agent and the alkyl alkoxysilane are present in the compound in a weight ratio of about 0.0001:1 to about 1:1.

    摘要: Amino alkoxy-modified silsesquioxanes (amino AMS), and/or amino co-AMS compounds that also comprise a mercaptosilane or a blocked mercaptosilane, are excellent adhesives for coating plated or unplated metal wire for adherence of the wire to a rubber stock. The amino AMS and/or the amino/mercaptan co-AMS adhesives can be used with all types of rubber and there is no requirement for the use of special adhesive additives to the rubber vulcanizates, such as, but not limited to, cobalt, resins and high sulfur levels. In particular, the use of amino AMS and/or amino/mercaptan co-AMS compounds as adhesives for bonding wire to rubber also improves the adherence performance of the reinforcements to obtain sufficient bonding that is resistant to degradation over the course of time, especially resistance to thermal aging and/or thermo-oxidizing aging, in particular corrosion in the presence of water. Vulcanized rubber compositions that contain an amino AMS and/or amino/mercaptan co-AMS compound also have improved adhesion to embedded uncoated steel after humidity aging compared with vulcanized rubber compositions not containing the amino alkoxy-modified silsesquioxane.
