This invention is related to a tissue ablation system and method that treats atrial arrhythmia by ablating a circumferential region of tissue at a location where a pulmonary vein extends from an atrium. The system includes a circumferential ablation member with an ablation element and also includes a delivery assembly for delivering the ablation member to the location. The circumferential ablation member is generally adjustable between different configurations to allow both the delivery through a delivery sheath into the atrium and the ablative coupling between the ablation element and the circumferential region of tissue.

A steerable electrophysiology catheter includes a shaft having a distal ablation segment with one or more electrodes coupled to a source of electrical energy by a connector extending through the shaft. The distal ablation segment of the shaft is movable between a collapsed configuration sized for percutaneous introduction into the patient and/or endoluminal delivery to the target site and an expanded configuration, in which the distal ablation segment forms a substantially continuous surface transverse to the shaft axis for engaging the heart tissue and creating a linear lesion thereon. The catheter includes one or more force element(s) positioned to apply an axial force between the distal and proximal ends of the ablation segment. The force element(s) provide a sufficiently uniform force against the distal ablation segment to establish continuous contact pressure between the electrodes and the patient's heart tissue. This contact pressure allows the surgeon to engage the entire length of the distal ablation segment against the heart tissue to provide a relatively long linear lesion on this tissue.

A percutaneous nephrostomy catheter system includes a nephrostomy catheter lumen, an extension tubing and a collection bag. The extension tubing is inserted into the nephrostomy catheter lumen. The collection bag is fluidly coupled to the extension tubing. A percutaneous nephrostomy catheter system also includes a catheter hub which employs a Luer valve in order to facilitate nephrostomy care so that when the percutaneous nephrostomy system is in place urine flows from the renal pelvis into the nephrostomy catheter lumen, the extension tubing and the collection bag. The Luer valve employs a scalloped Luer-style male connector which, when screwed into the catheter hub allows flow.
