摘要: A dynamic electric wheel balancer for measuring the imbalance condition in a vehicle wheel and indicating the position and correction weights required for balancing the wheel in one or two planes. The wheel balancer contains a rotating shaft in order to make the dynamic measurements. The shaft is freewheeling during measurement and is brought up to a predetermined minimum r.p.m. value through a motor and clutch arrangement. In order to take the measurements, piezoelectric sensors are used to measure the vertical force components exhibited by the imbalance condition of the vehicle wheel secured to the rotating main shaft. The measured force components are converted into digital form through the use of a voltage controlled oscillator and a counter in conjunction with a timing wheel.

摘要: The invention is directed to methods of inducing cell recruitment and tissue regeneration at a target site in a subject. It is also based, in part, on the discovery that a subject's own biologic resources and environmental conditions can be used for in situ tissue regeneration and thereby reduce or eliminate the need for donor cell procurement and ex vivo manipulation of such donor cells. Methods are disclosed for recruitment of a subject's own stem cells to a target region by inducing a sustained positive pressure at a target site, such as the kidney, thereby increasing the number of pluripotent cells capable of differentiating to regenerate the target tissue.

摘要: A keratin hydrogel-filled implantable prosthetic device. One device is a breast implant for augmenting or reconstructing a human breast including an envelope containing a keratin hydrogel. One keratin hydrogel is formed from a solid precursor which forms a keratin hydrogel upon addition of water. One source of keratin is human hair. In one method, an envelope suitable for implantation and a solid keratin hydrogel precursor are provided. The solid can be in fibrous or powder form. The solid precursor can be inserted into the envelope interior. A small incision near the breast can be made and the envelope inserted into the incision. After insertion, water can be injected into the envelope interior, preferably through the incision and through a self-sealing port in the envelope. In one method, the implant is provided as a kit, with the envelope and keratin hydrogel provided. The hydrogel can be injected into the envelope either before or after insertion into the breast area. One kit has a powdered, keratin hydrogel precursor disposed within the envelope interior, awaiting the addition of water, preferably after insertion of the implant into the body.

摘要: A mandibular advancement splint provides for adjustable lateral movement of upper and lower appliances. An upper appliance is inserted onto a user's upper jaw and a lower appliance is inserted onto a user's lower jaw. A first protrusion is formed on the upper appliance. A second protrusion is formed on the lower appliance. One of the first protrusion and the second protrusion can be adjusted to offset the lower jaw with respect to the upper jaw.The splint can have an upper appliance having a body mounted to an upper jaw of a user; and a lower appliance having a body mounted to a lower jaw of a user. The upper appliance has a pair of adjustable wings attached to the upper appliance body; and the lower appliance has a pair of fixed wings attached to the lower appliance body. The pair of wings attached to said upper appliance are slidably adjustable with respect to the upper appliance body to determine the offset between the upper and lower jaws of the user.

摘要: A composite insulator containing means for providing early warning of impending failure due to stress corrosion cracking, flashunder, or destruction of the rod by discharge activity conditions is described. A composite insulator comprising a fiberglass rod surrounded by a polymer housing and connected with metal end fittings on either end of the rod is doped with a dye-based chemical dopant. The dopant is located around the vicinity of the outer surface of the fiberglass rod. The dopant is formulated to possess migration and diffusion characteristics, and to be inert in dry conditions and compatible with the insulator components. The dopant is positioned within the insulator such that upon the penetration of moisture through the housing to the rod through a permeation pathway in the outer surface of the insulator, the dopant will become activated and will leach out of the same permeation pathway or diffuse through the housing. The activated dopant then creates a deposit or stain on the outer surface of the insulator housing. The dopant comprises an oil-soluble dye, an indicator, or a stain compound that can either be visually identified, or is sensitive to radiation at one or more specific wavelengths. The dopant could also be formulated by a nanoparticle enabled material. Deposits of activated dopant on the outer surface of the insulator can be detected upon imaging of the outer surface of the insulator by appropriate imaging instruments or the naked eye.
