A description is given of food coating compositions comprising a) a plastics dispersion or a mixture of plastics dispersions comprising at least one homo- or copolymer poly(meth)acrylate having at least 55% by weight (meth)acrylate monomer units and also 0.1 to 30% by weight of at least one protective colloid, and also b) aids and/or additives used for producing food coatings. The coatings are distinguished by sufficiently high water vapor transmission rates, low water absorption capacity and also low reemulsification capacity and have good mechanical properties in the moist state.

High-solids aqueous polymer dispersions, their preparation and use A description is given of an aqueous polymer dispersion derived from at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and with a solids content of at least 60% by weight, based on the polymer dispersion. The polymer dispersion comprises at least one salt of a phosphorus acid. The preparation takes place by free-radical emulsion polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer in aqueous phase in the presence of at least one emulsifier, at least one initiator and at least one salt of a phosphorus acid. With the process it is possible to prepare aqueous polymer dispersions having a high solids content in combination with a low viscosity, these polymer dispersions being suitable for formulating adhesives.

Besides high mechanical and chemical stability the optical component of the invention has excellent nonlinear optical properties, for example frequency-doubling.

Compositions containing selected polymer dispersions, colloidal silica, fillers and pigments are described.These can be formulated to give plasters and renders or paints which are distinguished by excellent abrasion resistance, little tendency to soiling, high water vapor permeability, good adhesion and good weathering stability. The compositions according to the invention can be processed to give plasters and renders or paints which have a nanostructured surface and which differ from conventionally produced surfaces.
