A welded joint of a tempered martensitic heat resisting steel includes a fine-grained heat affected zone of weldment of a heat resisting steel having a tempered martensite structure which exhibits a creep strength of 90% or more of the creep strength of the base metal thereof. The welded joint is inhibited in the formation of the fine-grained HAZ exhibiting a significantly reduced creep strength.

A high temperature bolt material, characterized in that it is a ferrite steel comprising 8 wt % or more of Cr and having a tempered martensite structure and can be used in a high temperature region of higher than 500° C.; and a method for producing the high temperature bolt material which comprises subjecting the above-mentioned steel material to a heat treatment comprising a quenching or normalizing at a temperature of 1000° C. or higher and then to a tempering at a temperature of 730° C. or higher. The above ferrite steel high temperature bolt material is excellent in characteristics of the resistance to stress relaxation.

A efficient photochemical method for the preparation of an alcohol compound, e.g., benzyl alcohol, from a non-olefin hydrocarbon compound, e.g., benzene, was proposed in which a mixture of the non-olefin hydrocarbon compound as the starting material and a hydrogen donor compound, which is a cycloalkane of 5 to 16 carbon atoms in a molecule, e.g., cyclooctane, or an aliphatic alcohol of up to 10 carbon atoms in a molecule, e.g., isopropyl alcohol, is irradiated with light under an atmosphere of carbon monoxide in the presence of a complex compound of rhodium or iridium, of which at least one of the ligands is preferably a monophosphine or bisphosphine compound. The method is advantageous in that the reaction can proceed under mild reaction conditions and that the amount of the aldehyde compound formed in the reaction mixture as a by-product is very small as compared with conventional methods so as to greatly facilitate isolation of the desired alcohol product from the reaction mixture.

The invention provides a ferritic heat-resistant steel having excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, especially excellent steam oxidation-resistant characteristics. In high-Cr ferritic heat-resistant steel, ultra-fine oxide particles having a size of not larger than 1 μm are formed just below the oxide films and formed on the steel base, whereby the adhesiveness between the films and the base is enhanced. The ferritic heat-resistant steel contains Cr in an amount of from 8.0 to 13.0% by weight, and at least one of Rh and Ir in a total amount of from 0.3 to 5.0% by weight.
