A flame retarding resin composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a specific rubber-reinforced resin, 1-200 parts by weight of a phenol resin, 1-200 parts by weight of an organic phosphorus compound, 1-50 parts by weight of a nitrogen-containing compound, 0-40 parts by weight of an oligomer-type polymer containing a functional group, 0-30 parts by weight of a metal compound, a silicon compound, and/or polytetrafluoroethylene, and 0-300 parts by weight of a styrene-type resin. The composition has high impact resistance, excellent heat resistance, and a superior self-fire-extinguishing characteristic.

Component B is a bromine-containing copolymer obtained by the polymerization of 5-50% by weight of bromostyrene and 95-50% by weight of one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of aromatic vinyl monomers, cyanated vinyl monomers, (meth)acrylic acid ester monomers, maleic anhydride, and maleimide monomers. The resin composition contains these components (A), (B), (C), and (D) at specific proportions, and its contents of the components (B) and (C) must be at a specified ratio. The resin composition is not only flame-retardant but also possesses such excellent characteristics as a high degree of light resistance, heat resistance, impact resistance and fluidity when it is molded. It can be molded into articles of various shapes and has a wide variety of applications in business machines, electric appliances, and automobile parts.

A thermoplastic resin composition comprising (A) 75 to 99.8% by weight of a rubber-modified styrene thermoplastic resin, (B) 0.1 to 15% by weight of an aromatic polyester having an intrinsic viscosity in the range of 0.2 to 1.5 dl/g, and (C) 0.1 to 10% by weight of an aromatic polycarbonate. The resin composition provides a painted surface with a superior appearance when a paint is applied on its surface, while maintaining its good fluidity, high impact resistance, and excellent molding heat stability. C. in o-chlorophenol, and(C) 0.1-20% by weight of a graft copolymer obtained by graft-copolymerizing a monomer mixture consisting of 60-80% by weight of an aromatic alkenyl compound and 20-40% by weight of an alkenyl cyanide compound on a copolymer consisting essentially of an olefin unit and an epoxy group-containing unsaturated compound unit, and(D) optionally a silicone lubricant in a proportion of 5-20,000 ppm of the total weight of the (A), (B) and (C) components. Said thermoplastic resin composition can be prepared by previously mixing a part or the whole of the (B) component, a part or the whole of the (C) component and 0-20% by weight of the (A) component, and then mixing the resulting mixture with the remaining component or components.
