摘要: To provide a power supply device for electric discharge lamps in which lamp extinguishing is completely prevented in high-pressure mercury vapor lamps with a comparatively large amount of mercury sealed within, is achieved through the use of a switchable connection from the connection state of a simulated arc discharge resistor (59) virtually equal to the arc discharge resistance of the high-pressure mercury vapor lamp to the connection state of simulated glow discharge resistors (59, 60) that have virtually {fraction (1/7)} of the glow discharge resistance that is completed at the output terminal of the power supply device (2) for the electric discharge lamps in question. The simulated arc discharge resistor is connected to the power supply device for electric discharge lamps, and the simulated glow discharge current in the transient state, switched from the state of flow of simulated arc discharge current to the simulated glow discharge resistor, continues to be under 30% of the simulated arc discharge current for less than 10 &mgr;s and the duration until the current recovers to at least 70% of said simulated arc discharge current is less than 100 &mgr;s.

摘要: A light source device with a mercury lamp, in the case of formation of a bridging short circuit of the gap between the electrodes of the discharge lamp caused by mercury, to prevent the light source device from no longer being usable because the difference between a defective device and one with such a bridging short circuit cannot be ascertained, has a means for determining that a bridging short circuit has formed in the gap between the electrodes. Furthermore, various manners for eliminating the bridging short circuit are provided including those that make use of vibration, heat, dielectric discharge or Lorenz forces.

摘要: A substrate having a channel portion in which a liquid transfers, wherein, even if the channel portion has no micro-channel interconnecting chambers, a liquid can transfer stepwise from one region to the next region according to the speed of rotation of the substrate. The substrate can be rotated about a rotation axis as the center, and has the channel portion including the chambers formed therein. The inner wall of each chamber has a first area including an area intersecting with a centrifugal direction from the center; and also has a second area placed at a position farther from the center than the first area, and including a surface intersecting with the centrifugal direction from the center. Further, the first area has a region for holding a droplet of a liquid provided; and also has a region where a contact with the droplet expands when the substrate is rotated, and that communicate with the second area.

摘要: A seal structure is disclosed, wherein a casing 10 has an annular protrusion 11 making up a hole-formed portion of a through hole 12. The portion of a joint member 30 around a joint body 31 is wound with a band-shaped seal member 60. A first peripheral end portion 60a and a second peripheral end portion 60b of the seal member 60 are formed progressively upward in the direction from the engine compartment to the passenger compartment. In the process of inserting the joint body 31 and the seal member 60 into the through hole 12 of the casing 10, the first peripheral end portion 60a and the second peripheral end portion 60b of the seal member 60 are butted against each other in the peripheral direction. As a result, a gap is difficult to form between the first peripheral end portion 60a and the second peripheral end portion 60b.
