The purpose of the present invention is to provide: an adhesive composition for optical applications, which is capable of suppressing luminance unevenness without deteriorating the contrast characteristics in optical applications, and which can be used for optical members and prevents the optical members from separation in a reliability test; an adhesive layer; an optical member; an image display device and the like. An adhesive composition for optical applications, which contains a modified (meth)acrylic graft polymer and an isocyanate crosslinking agent, is prepared. The modified (meth)acrylic graft polymer is obtained by graft polymerizing chains, each of which contains a cyclic ether group-containing monomer, to the trunk polymer, and contains, as constituent components, an alkyl(meth)acrylate, a cyclic ether group-containing monomer, and an acyclic ether group-containing monomer. An adhesive layer for optical applications, which is formed from the composition, an optical member, an image display device and the like are also produced.

Specifically, an optical sheet with an adhesive layer is produced by arranging an adhesive layer on a recessed and projected surface of an optical film which has been subjected to processing for forming recesses and projections. In addition, the optical sheet with an adhesive layer is bonded to various light sources or image display elements, thereby obtaining light sources or image display devices that have improved light extraction efficiency without changing the designs of the light sources or image display elements, while securing uniform light emission and improving viewing angles especially in devices that comprises the image display elements.

Provided is a photocurable pressure-sensitive adhesive composition which does not cause oozing under ordinary temperature and pressure conditions and exhibits sufficient initial tack via drying and crosslinking. The photocurable pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is easily curable by light irradiation and can form a curable pressure-sensitive adhesive layer having high peel resistance. Also provided are a photocurable pressure-sensitive adhesive layer and a photocurable pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet. A photocurable pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is prepared which comprises a graft polymer obtained by grafting a chain that contains a monomer bearing a cyclic ether group onto a (meth)acrylic polymer that contains 0.2 to 10% by weight of hydroxyalkyl(meth)acrylamide monomer units, and a cationic photopolymerization initiator. A photocurable pressure-sensitive adhesive layer using such composition and a photocurable pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet are also prepared.

A process for producing a polymer is described, comprising: a) the step of performing a polymerization reaction by using a monomer, a transition metal and its ligand and a polymerization initiator to form a polymer; and b) the step of eliminating the transition metal and its ligand contained in the polymer under the condition of a viscosity of 100 Pa·s or below, wherein the step b comprises: b1) the former step of eliminating the transition metal and its ligand insoluble in the polymer; and b2) the latter step of eliminating the transition metal and its ligand dissolved in the polymer.
