摘要: Disclosed herein is a process for producing highly pure rhamnose from gum arabic, which the process comprises after partially hydrolyzing gum arabic in an aqueous solution of a mineral acid, neutralyzing and condensing the liquid hydrolyzate, thereby obtaining an aqueous solution containing from 40 to 70% by weight of organic substances, adding a polar organic solvent in an amount of from 5 to 20 times by volume of the amount of the aqueous solution, thereby precipitating an insolubilized substance, removing the insolubilized substance from a mixture of the aqueous solution and the polar organic solvent, removing the polar organic solvent from the mixture, thereby obtaining an aqueous solution containing monosaccharides formed by the hydrolysis of gum arabic, and subjecting the thus obtained aqueous solution to strongly cationic ion-exchanging resin-chromatography and then to a method of adsorption and separation by using activated carbon, thereby obtaining the highly pure rhamnose from the aqueous solution.

摘要: A material testing apparatus including holders for material to be tested, a driving unit actuating the holders to plastically deform the material and a measuring unit for measuring the extent of color changes in deformed material. The measuring unit, which is an essential part of the apparatus, includes a light source, a light beam receiving unit and a display device. Light beams emitted from a light source are reflected on the plastically deformed material in the form of a testpiece, and thus reflected light beams are introduced into the light beam receiving unit in which the intensity of the received light beam is detected. Then, the light beams are converted into an electrical value, and digitally displayed on the display device. The driving unit may include a mechanism for changing the rate of deformation of the material. The material is usually subjected to plastic deformation by a stepping motor which changes the rate of deformation of the material. The driving unit may further include a plurality of speed reduction gears which can be replaced as required so as to change the rate of deformation of the material over a wide range. The driving unit also includes a mechanism for bending and stretching the testpieces.

摘要: Useful fragments such as hyphae are extracted from a raw sample containing water such a fungi attached to a plant. The sample is rapidly frozen and cut under vacuum largely and at random. Water contained in the sample is sublimated and the sample is coated with conductive material. While observing the sample by a scanning electron microscope, useful fragments are extracted from the sample by a micro-manipulator.
