摘要: A modular disc prosthesis system is provided that allows a disc prosthesis to be constructed, either pre- or intra-operatively, to have a desired degree of freedom or constraint when positioned between endplates of adjacent vertebrae. In particular, the components can be assembled to form a disc prosthesis having a center of rotation that is constrained or fixed such that, when the disc prosthesis is implanted between endplates of adjacent vertebrae, the adjacent vertebrae have one degree of freedom and move about a fixed center of rotation. Alternatively, one or more of the same components and one or more additional components of the system can be used to construct a disc prosthesis having a center of rotation that is unconstrained or that floats such that, when the disc prosthesis is implanted between the endplates of adjacent vertebrae, the adjacent vertebrae have multiple degrees of freedom and can move about a floating or moving center of rotation, i.e., a center of rotation that is not fixed.

摘要: A trial intervertebral disk implant includes a first plate, a second plate, adjacent to the first plate, a conformable layer between the first and the second plates, and a pressure sensor within the conformable layer. The pressure sensor measures a distribution of compression force exerted by the first and the second plates on the conformable layer. The trial implant includes indicating means for indicating a position of the first and the second plates relative to each other, and locating means, for locating a position of the trial implant relative to the vertebrae between which said trial implant has been placed. The trial implant further includes at least one retractable member, connected to at least one of the first and the second plates. The retractable member can be extended or retracted through an aperture defined by a surface of the plate that is proximal to an abutting vertebra.

摘要: A method and apparatus for treating an intraosseous nerve. The method includes positioning a hollow shaft through the cortical shell of a vertebral body and into a cancellous bone region of the vertebral body. The hollow shaft includes an annular wall having a longitudinal bore therein, a proximal portion and a distal portion, and a first window extending transversely through the annular wall. An electrosurgical probe is advanced within the longitudinal bore from the proximal portion toward the distal portion. The electrosurgical probe includes a first treatment element at a distal end of the probe, wherein the first treatment element being in electrical connection with a power supply. The first treatment element is slidably disposed within the longitudinal bore so that the first treatment element is advanced radially outward from the window and shaft to affect treatment of the intraosseous nerve within the cancellous bone region.
