Abstract: A honeycomb-type heating device includes a pillar-shaped honeycomb substrate that has partition walls defining a plurality of cells and that has a circumferential wall surrounding the partition walls; a plurality of heaters adjacently arranged on a circumferential face in a circumferential direction of the circumferential face that is an outer surface of the circumferential wall; a coated wire electrically connecting the plurality of heaters; and a metal case housing the honeycomb substrate and the plurality of heaters. Each of the plurality of heaters has an electrode for energization and is a resistance heating type heater that generates heat due to energization, the metal case has hole parts for protruding the electrodes of respective heaters to the outside of the metal case, and the coated wire electrically connects, outside the metal case, the electrodes of respective heaters protruding to the outside of the metal case from the hole parts.

Abstract: There is provided a honeycomb type heating device including: a pillar-shaped honeycomb substrate having a partition wall defining a plurality of cells extending from one end face to the other end face and a circumferential wall surrounding the partition wall; a plurality of heaters adjacently arranged on a circumferential face that is an outside surface of the circumferential wall in a circumferential direction of the circumferential face; and intermediate members interposed between the circumferential face of the honeycomb substrate and the plurality of heaters. The sum of areas of portions of the circumferential face covered with the intermediate members between the circumferential face of the honeycomb substrate and the plurality of heaters is 20 to 100% of the sum of areas of portions of the circumferential face covered with the plurality of heaters.

The honeycomb structure is composed of ceramics and a metal. The honeycomb structure contains 40% by volume or less of the metal. The welded portion of the honeycomb structure has a surface containing 40% by volume or more of the metal.

Abstract: A support for an electric heating type catalyst includes: a honeycomb structure having: porous partition walls extending through the honeycomb structure from an inflow end face to an outflow end face to define a plurality of cells forming a through channel; and an outer peripheral wall located at the outermost periphery; a pair of electrode layers disposed on the outer peripheral wall of the honeycomb structure; and a pair of electrode portions. Each of the electrode layers is formed in a strip shape extending in an extending direction of the cell of the honeycomb structure. In a cross section orthogonal to the extending direction of the cell, one electrode layer of the pair of electrode layers is disposed on a side opposite to the other electrode layer across a center of the honeycomb structure. Each of the electrode layers is electrically connected to each of the electrode portions via two or more base layers, and the base layers have conductivity and are spaced apart from each other. Each of the electrode portions includes two or more electrodes, and each of the electrodes is fixed to outer surfaces of the base layers.
