    摘要: Polymer blend compositions comprise (a) a polyphenylene ether polymer, (b) a polyphthalamide comprising the reaction product of (i) hexamethylene diamine or a mixture of hexamethylene diamine and trimethylhexamethylene diamine, and (ii) terephthalic acid, and optionally (iii) at least one acid selected from the group consisting of isophthalic acid and adipic acid, provided that a mixture of said diamines is employed if reactant (iii) is absent, and (c) at least one compatibilizer. The compositions may further include an aliphatic polyamide and/or an impact modifier.

    摘要: This invention provides a method for preparing polycarbonates, which utilizes polycondensation catalysts which are derivatized pyridyl triazinyl pyridyl macromolecules with the general formula Ax+y[(Triazinyl-Pyridyl)By−x], where A is certain alkali metals, B contains a charge balancing sulfonate, carboxylate, or phosphonate group. We have found that this new class of catalysts provide excellent polymerization rates for the preparation of Bisphenol A polycarbonate from the melt polymerization of diphenyl carbonate and Bisphenol A. Moreover, the catalysts of the invention were found to be very selective in substantially reducing the level of branching side reaction, i.e., formation of Fries product, normally associated with the melt polycarbonate process.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a synthetic method in which one or more diaryl carbonates is reacted with one or more dihydroxy aromatic compounds in the presence of a transesterification catalyst under melt polymerization conditions to afford a product polycarbonate. The transesterifcation catalysts used according to the method of the present invention are alkali metal salts and alkaline earth metal salts of organic phosphates in combination with tetraalkylammonium or tetraalkylphosphonium compounds which serve as co-catalysts. The organic phosphate derivative adenosine 5′-monophosphate disodium salt was shown to possess excellent activity as a transesterifcation catalyst for the preparation of polycarbonate under melt polymerization conditions. The catalysts employed according to the method of the present invention provide polycarbonates having substantial molecular weight (Mn˜8000-10000 daltons) and reduced levels of Fries rearrangement product relative to conventionally prepared melt polycarbonate having a similar molecular weight.
