The invention is directed to new sulfur-containing diisocyanates in which a mercapto, sulfoxo or sulfone group joins two aromatic nuclei together or joins an aromatic nucleus to an aliphatic group and in which at least one of the aromatically bound isocyanate groups is in the ortho-position to the sulfur atom. The invention is also directed to a process for the preparation of these new sulfur-containing diisocyanates and to their use in the isocyanate polyaddition process for the production of polyurethanes.

The instant invention is directed to a process for the production of vulcanized elastomers containing urethane groups by casting, comprising:(A) mixing the following components:(1) liquid diene polymers containing isocyanate reactive functional groups,(2) compounds having molecular weights of from 400 to 10,000, and containing at least two hydroxyl groups,(3) polyisocyanates,(4) cross-linking agents having molecular weights of from 32 to 400 and containing at least two active hydrogen atoms,(5) vulcanization agents used for vulcanization and optionally(6) reinforcing fillers; and subsequently(B) pouring the mixture into a mold and allowing the mixture to react in the mold; and subsequently(C) vulcanizing the molded product at temperatures above 120.degree. This invention relates to a process for the production of non-cellular polyurethane ureas elastomers using a chain-extender mixture produced from asymmetrically alkyl-substituted anilines by condensation with formaldehyde. The chain-extending agents used in the instant invention show medium reactivity to compounds containing isocyanate groups. These chain-extending agents may be processed both in high-pressure and in low-pressure metering and mixing units because they are either liquid at room temperature or can be melted at relatively low temperatures (below 55.degree. C.). The homogeneous, i.e. non-cellular, polyurethane urea elastomers obtained in the instant invention are distinguished by having excellent mechanical properties.

The instant invention is directed to a process for the production of polyurethane urea elastomers having a gross density of more than 200 kg/m.sup.3 comprising: casting a reaction mixture of(A) an isocyanate prepolymer produced from(a) 1 mole of a compound containing at least 2 Zerewitinoff-active hydrogen atoms and having a molecular weight of from 400 to 10,000 and(b) 2 to 10 moles of diisocyanatodiphenylmethane,(B) an aromatic diamine, and(C) 0 to 50 mole percent, based on component (B), of a polyol containing primary hydroxyl groups and having a molecular weight of from 62 to 6000, the equivalent ratio between component (A) and components (B) + (C) amounting to between 0.9:1 and 1.3:1,into a mold, hardening the reaction mixture in the mold and subsequently removing it from the mold, the improvement wherein said isocyanate prepolymer (A) has been produced using an isomer mixture comprising:from 15 to 80 mole percent of 2,4'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane,from 20 to 85 mole percent of 4,4'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane, andfrom 0 to 20 mole percent of 2,2'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane.
