    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device comprises: a first liquid crystal cell being a lateral electric field driven type; a second liquid crystal cell being a lateral electric field driven type; a first polarizing plate and a second polarizing plate, which are disposed so as to sandwich the first liquid crystal cell; and a third polarizing plate and a fourth polarizing plate, which are disposed so as to sandwich the second liquid crystal cell. The liquid crystal display device is configured such that rotation of a liquid crystal molecule of the first liquid crystal cell and rotation of a liquid crystal molecule of the second liquid crystal cell cancel and compensate for a hue change of the first liquid crystal cell or the second liquid crystal cell when viewed from a predetermined direction.

The backlight irradiates the first display panel and the second display panel with light beams in a plurality of colors while sequentially switching the light beams. Each of the first display panel and the second display panel includes a plurality of pixels. An area of the pixel included in the first display panel is smaller than an area of the pixel included in the second display panel.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: a first display panel displaying a color image, and a second display panel displaying a black-and-white image. The first display panel includes a first pixel corresponding to a first transmission area transmitting light having first color, a second pixel corresponding to a second transmission area transmitting light having second color, and a third pixel corresponding to a third transmission area transmitting light having third color. The second display panel includes a fourth pixel overlapping the first pixel, and a fifth pixel overlapping the second pixel and the third pixel. An area of the fourth pixel is different from an area of the fifth pixel.

    Abstract: The present invention is intended to control the color temperature of white exhibited by a liquid crystal display device. White is produced when light waves emitted through pixels associated with three colors of red, green, and blue have maximum intensities. The amounts of light emitted through the respective pixels are controlled by differentiating the shapes of the pixel electrodes disposed at the respective pixels from one another. Thus, the color temperature of white is controlled. Otherwise, the shapes of interceptive films disposed at the respective pixels are differentiated from one another in order to control light waves emitted through the respective pixels. Thus, the color temperature of white is controlled. The interceptive film may be shaped like the pixel electrode. Otherwise, the interceptive film may be realized with an interceptive pattern other than that of the pixel electrode or one of openings bored in a black matrix.
