    Abstract: Pneumatic rubber tire with a tread composed of a rubber blend of a base of at least two synthetic elastomers composed of (i) specialized isoprene/butadiene copolymer elastomer having a low Tg in a range of about -70.degree. to about -100.degree. C. and (ii) a diene based elastomer having a Tg in a range of about -5.degree. to about -30.degree. C. together with a minor amount of natural cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber. Selection of the base of the said two synthetic elastomers having spaced apart, or spatially defined, Tg's of at least 40.degree. C. is an important feature of the tread rubber blend. Representative examples of contemplated elastomers with Tg's in a range of about -5.degree. to about -30.degree. C. are 3,4-polyisoprene elastomer, styrene/isoprene copolymer elastomer and high vinyl polybutadiene elastomers.In one aspect, the tread rubber blend is reinforced with reinforcing filler composed of carbon black or a combination of carbon black and silica accompanied by a coupling agent.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a sulfur cured rubber composition particularly suited for use in tire treads. The sulfur cured rubber composition is composed of based on 100 parts by weight of rubber, from about 1.0 to 15 parts by weight of epoxidized rubber; from about 1.0 to 15 parts by weight of a carboxylated nitrile rubber; and 98 to 70 parts by weight of a rubber selected from the group consisting of medium vinyl polybutadiene, styrene-butadiene rubber, synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprene, synthetic 3,4-polyisoprene, natural rubber, cis-polybutadiene, styrene-isoprene rubber, styrene-isoprene-butadiene rubber, acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber and mixtures thereof.

    Abstract: A pneumatic tire having a sulfur cured tread is provided comprised of at least one diene rubber and a low density polyethylene having a crystalline melt point in a range of about 104.degree. C. to about 115.degree. C., wherein the said LDPE is mixed with the said rubber at a temperature of about 120.degree. C. to about 170.degree. C. prior to sulfur vulcanizing the blend.A process is also provided for producing a tire in which a hot cured tire is removed from its rigid mold where the tread is comprised of at least one diene rubber and a low density polyethylene (LDPE) having a crystalline melt point in a range of about 104.degree.     Abstract: It is often desirable to utilize accelerators in the sulfur vulcanization of unsaturated rubbers. In many cases a primary accelerator is used in combination with another accelerator, called a secondary accelerator or activator, which further increases the rate of vulcanization. It has been determined that compounds having the structural formula:NH.sub.2 --A--NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.x NH].sub.n A--NH.sub.2wherein x is 2 or 3, wherein n is an integer from 1 to 100, and wherein A represents an alkylene group containing from 1 to 20 carbons atoms, act as secondary accelerators in the vulcanization of unsaturated rubbers. For example, it has been determined that 4,7-diaza-decane-1,10-diamine is a particularly desirable secondary accelerator.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a process for the production of tack-free, pourable, filler containing elastomer powder which comprises(a) dispersing a carbon black filler in water;(b) mixing the thus dispersed carbon black filler with an elastomer latex;(c) coagulating the thus produced mixture of elastomer latex and carbon black with a two-stage coagulation solution;(d) partitioning the thus coagulated suspension with a coating resin; and(e) filtering, washing and drying of the resultant powder, the improvement comprising using as a coating resin a mixture of a styrene/butadiene resin and a styrene/.alpha.-methylstyrene or a polystyrene resin wherein the weight ratio of the styrene/butadiene resin to the styrene/.alpha.-methylstyrene or polystyrene resin ranges between 4/1 and 1/4, said resins containing a mixture of added surfactants, the first being sodium lauryl sulfate and the second being a nonionic isooctyl phenoxy polyethoxy ethanol which contains 10 moles of ethylene oxide in the polyethoxy portion thereof, said mixture of surfactants being added in an amount at least 4 percent by weight and being in a weight ratio of sodium lauryl sulfate to the nonionic surfactant ranging from 2/1 to 1/2, and wherein the coagulation temperature ranges from 70.degree. to 90.degree. C., and a further improvement of using the coagulating step in (c) a two-step coagulating process, the first being acid/salt and then next using an acid/alum coagulating solution.
