The crotch member has a longitudinally extending length defined between the first and second terminal edges. The crotch member is connected to the body panel at an attachment location, which is longitudinally spaced along the length of the crotch member from the first terminal edge thereof. The crotch member includes an unattached end portion that extends between the attachment location and the first terminal edge and that is unattached to the body panel. Methods of using and manufacturing the undergarment are also provided.

The present invention involves the production of large quantities of human .alpha.-Gal A by cloning and expressing the .alpha.-Gal A coding sequence in eukaryotic host cell expression systems. The eukaryotic expression systems, and in particular the mammalian host cell expression system described herein provide for the appropriate cotranslational and posttranslational modifications required for proper processing, e.g., glycosylation, phosphorylation, etc. and sorting of the expression product so that an active enzyme is produced. In addition, the expression of fusion proteins which simplify purification is described.Using the methods described herein, the recombinant .alpha.-Gal A is secreted by the engineered host cells so that it is recovered from the culture medium in good yield. The .alpha.-Gal A produced in accordance with the invention may be used, but is not limited to, in the treatment in Fabry Disease; for the hydrolysis of .alpha.-galactosyl residues in glycoconjugates; and/or for the conversion of the blood group B antigen on erythrocytes to the blood group O antigen.

Disclosed herein is a lofty fibrous nonwoven web which is particularly well-suited for use as a surge layer in personal care absorbent articles including, but not limited to, diapers, training pants, incontinence garments, sanitary napkins, bandages and the like. The fibrous nonwoven web is made from a plurality of fibers heat bonded to one another to form a lofty nonwoven web having a basis weight of at least 20 grams per square meter, a void volume of between about 80 and about 117 centimeters per gram of web while under a pressure of 689 dynes per square centimeter, a permeability of about 8,000 to about 15,000 darcy, a porosity of about 98.6 percent to about 99.4 percent and a surface area per void of about 10 to about 25 square centimeters per cubic centimeter. The fibrous nonwoven web will have a saturation capacity of between about 55 and about 80 grams of 0.9 percent saline solution per gram of web and a compression resilience in both the wet and dry state of at least about 60 percent.

The present invention involves the production of human .alpha.-GalNAc by cloning and expressing the .alpha.-GalNAc coding sequence in eukaryotic host cell expressions systems. The eukaryotic expression systems, and in particular the mammalian host cell expression systems described herein provide for the appropriate co-translational and post-translation modifications required or proper processing, e.g., glycosylation, phosphorylation, etc. and sorting of the expression product so that an active enzyme is produced. The .alpha.-GalNAc produced in accordance with the invention may be used in the treatment of Schindler disease or for the hydrolysis of .alpha.-N-acetylgalactosaminyl moieties in various glycoconjugates.

Absorbent articles with carefully controlled stretch properties are provided. Of particular advantage, the carefully controlled stretch properties can prevent too much tension in the front leg area of the garment. The outer cover is constructed such that the front leg zone has a tension of less than about 1200 grams-force at about 160% to about 175% stretch in the lateral direction, and each of the front waist zone, the front crotch zone, the back crotch zone, the back leg zone, and the back waist zone of the outer cover has a tension of greater than about 1500 grams-force at about 160% to about 175% stretch in the lateral direction. Methods of making such an absorbent article are also provided.

An absorbent garment includes a front body panel having a terminal waist edge and a terminal crotch edge and a rear body panel having a terminal waist edge and a terminal crotch edge. The terminal crotch edge of the rear body panel is longitudinally spaced from and forms a gap with the terminal crotch edge of the front body panel. An absorbent insert includes first and second longitudinally spaced end portions and opposite laterally spaced side edges. The absorbent insert bridges the gap between the front and rear body panels with the first and second end portions overlying and connected to the front and rear body panels respectively. At least one of the first and second end portions of the absorbent insert is connected respectively to a corresponding one of the front and rear body panels with at least first and second adhesive regions having first and second adhesive basis weights respectively. At least a portion of the second adhesive region is located adjacent the terminal crotch edge of at least one of the front and rear body panels. The second adhesive basis weight is greater than the first adhesive basis weight. In another aspect, the first adhesive region has a first peel strength and the first and second adhesive regions in combination have a second peel strength. In one embodiment, the second peel strength is greater than the first peel strength. In another aspect, a method of assembling the absorbent garment is provided.
摘要:
An absorbent garment includes a body panel and an absorbent composite having a longitudinally extending length and a laterally extending width and including a backsheet, a topsheet and a retention portion disposed between the backsheet and the topsheet. The absorbent composite is connected to the body panel and includes a side margin that is not attached to the body panel and that extends laterally outboard and terminates in a free edge. In one preferred embodiment, the free edge does not extend along the entirety of the length of the absorbent composite. Rather, the entire width of an end of the absorbent composite is secured to the body panel. Preferably, the width of the side margin along the portion of the absorbent composite overlapping the body panel is relatively constant.
