摘要： A controller for directing a host machine which is operative to include a central processor for program execution, a system bus controlled by the central processor for carrying data, address and control signals, and a data memory coupled to the system bus. Additionally included is a direct memory access moudle for conveyance through the system bus of a hold signal to the central processor upon receipt of an enabling signal, and upon acknowledgement for control assumptions of the system bus for generating address and state signals that will directly access the data memory for host machine update. Operative to interface with the above is a fault timer including a counter clocked at a given frequency for reset by the state signal from the direct memory access module if within a given period, and upon absence of reset for generating a fault signal, and a bistable unit operative to receive the fault signal from the counter for clocked latching thereof, and for generating a hold signal through the direct memory access module to the central processor and a disabling signal to the host machine.

摘要： A non-volatile storage module as utilized in a controller for directing a plurality of control registers of a host machine. The controller includes a central processor that is communicatively coupled through a system bus having control data, and address lines to the module and host machine. The non-volatile storage module includes a data memory operative to interface with the system bus for storing data, and for input-output of the data therefrom through the system bus upon command of the central processor. In addition, the module further includes a power storage unit coupled to the data memory for distributing a plurality of power signals from the host machine through a plurality of critical and non-critical power lines to the data memory for providing a power source that may be utilized therein for a power down condition and for sensing a power down condition on the critical power line from the power storage unit for the switching thereof to the data memory. The module also includes an apparatus that is operative upon indication of a power down condition from the host machine for generating an enabling signal to the data memory while a current address signal on the system bus is being received by the data memory.

摘要： The device, for use in contraception and in preventing transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, comprises a thin, flexible pouch having an open end in the form of a peripheral flange with a peripheral ribbed rim, and a closed end. An insert is provided within the closed end of the pouch so as to protect the pouch during insertion thereof into the vagina by means of an applicator rod or the like. The insert, which is typically absorbent and of flexible expanded plastics material, and may have dispersed therein a spermicide and/or an antiviral agent, comprises a central portion and four spurs. A continuous coating layer of an adhesive material which can temporarily adhere the barrier device to mucous membrane material in the presence of aqueous body fluids is preferably provided on the vulva-contacting surface of the flange and/or on the vagina-contacting surface of the pouch.

摘要： An auxiliary ROM memory system which is hierarchied for providing for the contingency of additional read-only memory control program storage requirements in excess or in lieu of the predetermined ROM memory provided on-board a microprocessor based central processing unit module, and a read-only memory altering capability utilizing programmable read-only memory to expedite the implementation/installation of changes to the ROM bit patterns. The alterable PROM storage comprises bulk PROM memory including a first PROM set that is mutually exclusive as to existing on-board ROM memory for addressably branching to code extensions and/or in-line code insertions, and/or a second PROM set that is mutually inclusive as to existent on-board and contingent ROM memory for decodably addressing large-scale code overlays thereto. In addition, the alterable PROM storage comprises patch PROM for addressing, through multi-leveled decoding, small-scale code overlays to the on-board and contingent ROM memory for single in-line bit pattern alterations. Conflicting memory requests involving addresses recognized by more than one of the supra memory categories, when enabled, are presented to a predetermined hierarchy of memory precedences for resolution thereof. Each of the enumerated memory categories of the auxiliary ROM memory system may be operative to have its population incremented or decremented without invalidating the above hierarchy of addressing.

摘要： An apparatus for manipulating a surgical needle is disclosed, comprising a body portion, a first needle receiving jaw mounted for movement on a distal end of the body portion and having a first needle engaging member, a second needle receiving jaw mounted for movement on the distal end of the body portion and having a second needle engaging member, the second needle engaging member being operatively interconnected to the first needle engaging member for relative reciprocal movement therewith, wherein each of the first and second needle receiving jaws has a recess for receipt of a portion of a surgical needle therein. The first and second needle engaging members are mounted for alternate reciprocal movement into and out of locking engagement with the surgical needle. The apparatus also includes a wheel rotatably mounted within the body portion with a proximal end portion of each of the first and second needle engaging members connected to opposing sides of the wheel such that rotation of the wheel simultaneously retracts one of the needle engaging members and advances the other. Also disclosed is a method of manipulating a surgical needle inside a body cavity using a surgical instrument having a control mechanism, a first jaw and a second jaw, where at least one of the jaws is mounted for movement between a first position adjacent the other jaw and a second position spaced apart from the other jaw.
