Abstract: A tool for elongating a fibrous length of tissue, the tool comprising: a first group of cutters, the first group of cutters comprising a plurality of cutters spaced apart across a width of the tool so as to form an interleaved set of cutting widths and non-cutting widths; a second group of cutters, the second group of cutters comprising a plurality of cutters spaced apart across the width of the tool so as to from an interleaved set of cutting widths and non-cutting widths; and wherein each cutter of the second group is positioned so as to at least partially overlap at least one non-cutting width of the first group. As each group of cutters is arranged to form interleaved areas of cutting and non-cutting, when the tool is used, each group of cutters will cut some fibres of the fibrous length of tissue while leaving other fibres uncut.

Abstract: A generator, ultrasonic device, and method for controlling a temperature of an ultrasonic blade are disclosed. A control circuit coupled to a memory determines an actual resonant frequency of an ultrasonic electromechanical system comprising an ultrasonic transducer coupled to an ultrasonic blade by an ultrasonic waveguide. The actual resonant frequency is correlated to an actual temperature of the ultrasonic blade. The control circuit retrieves from the memory a reference resonant frequency of the ultrasonic electromechanical system. The reference resonant frequency is correlated to a reference temperature of the ultrasonic blade. The control circuit then infers the temperature of the ultrasonic blade based on the difference between the actual resonant frequency and the reference resonant frequency. The control circuit controls the temperature of the ultrasonic blade based on the inferred temperature.

Abstract: A kit including a sheath having a tubular body with proximal and distal ends, an axis extending between the ends and a wall defining a bore extending along the axis to the distal end of the body. A delivery tube having proximal and distal ends and a lumen is adapted for disposition within the bore of the sheath in sealing engagement with the sheath, the delivery tube being slideable distally relative to the sheath. An elongated cannula having proximal and distal ends and a lumen is adapted for disposition inside the lumen of the delivery tube and an elongated dilator is adapted to fit within the lumen of the cannula with a proximal portion of the dilator extending proximally beyond the proximal ends of the cannula and delivery tube and in sealing engagement with the delivery tube proximal to the cannula.

Abstract: The dual bone forceps may be considered tandem locking forceps wherein the forceps are coupled to each other so that the surgeon may use one for clamping the bone graft plate adjacent the graft site while clamping the other forceps to a supporting bone structure above, below, or lateral to the graft site during the procedure. The dual bone forceps includes a bone graft plate clamping forceps having clamping jaws at the anterior end and flat handles terminating in locking jaws at the posterior end. The dual bone forceps also includes an anchoring forceps having an elongate hook blade and a shortened anvil blade at the anterior end and locking handles at the posterior end. A linking bar extends non-coplanar from the shortened anvil blade to the pivot of the bone graft plate clamping forceps to maintain the two forceps linked to each other, but spaced apart in different planes.

Abstract: Medical devices, such as forceps including a handpiece having a housing and an inner shaft that extends out of the handpiece along a longitudinal axis to transfer motion to an end effector. Abstract: A surgical instrument includes an elongated shaft having a distal portion and a proximal portion coupled to a housing. An inner shaft member extends at least partially through the elongated shaft and is selectively movable in a longitudinal direction. An end effector is supported by the distal portion of the elongated shaft. The end effector includes upper and lower jaw members pivotally coupled to the distal portion of the elongated shaft about a pivot axis and including a pair of laterally spaced flanges. The pairs of flanges of the jaw members are arranged in an offset configuration such that one flange of the upper jaw member is positioned on a laterally exterior side of a corresponding flange of the lower jaw member, and the other flange of the upper jaw member is positioned on a laterally interior side of the other flange of the lower jaw member.

Abstract: An impact or extension handle for a needle assembly such as a jamshidi needle can include an attachment portion and a handle portion. The impact or extension handle can also include an impact strikeplate. The attachment portion is configured to couple to the jamshidi needle. A user can use the impact or extension handle to manipulate the position or angle of the needle assembly. A user can tap a mallet or similar instrument on the impact strikeplate to drive the needle assembly into a target location in a patient's body. The impact or extension handle can allow the user to hold his or her hands out of the way of equipment used during the procedure and away from potentially harmful radiation from imaging equipment used during the procedure.

Abstract: An instrument that includes forceps. The forceps include a jaw assembly. The jaw assembly includes a first jaw and a second jaw. The first jaw includes a gripping section, and the second jaw includes a gripping section. The jaw assembly is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The first jaw is electrically conductive, the second jaw is electrically conductive, or both the first jaw and the second jaw are electrically conductive. The first jaw includes a first tissue stop that is centered on a medial plane of the first jaw. The tissue stop extends from the first jaw towards the second jaw. The first tissue stop is adapted to block an anatomical feature from extending beyond a proximal end of the gripping section of the first jaw, a proximal end of the gripping section of the second jaw, or both.
