Abstract:
Polyurethane carpet backings are made using a polyurethane-forming composition that includes fatty acid amide polyols. The formulation allows a significant replacement of conventional polyols with polyols derived from annually renewable resources, while maintaining important properties like edge curl, tuftbind, viscosity and curing rates.
Abstract:
The present invention is a low density polyurethane foam cushion useful as an attached carpet cushion or as a detached carpet underlay. The low density foams of the present invention are prepared by a process wherein a polyurethane foam formulation is blown by both mechanical and chemical processes.
Abstract:
The present invention is a polyurethane carpet backing prepared from a polyurethane-forming composition wherein fly ash is included as a filler material. High loadings of fly ash can be obtained without detriment to the process for preparing a polyurethane carpet backing, or adverse effect to the physical properties of the carpet backing.
Abstract:
Polyurethane-backed substrates such as attached cushion carpeting are prepared from a polyurethane forming composition based on a soft segment prepolymer of MDI or an MDI derivative. The use of the prepolymer provides a backing having good strength properties and good resiliency.
Abstract:
Polyurethane floor covering products are formed from a web layer containing at least 30% by weight fibers. A cooled polyurethane foam formulation which includes at least one polyisocyanate, water and at least one polyol having an equivalent weight of at least 500 is applied to the web layer. The wetted web layer is then compressed to mechanically wet out the fibers, gauged and heated to cure the foam formulation.

Polyurethane carpet backings are made using a polyurethane-forming composition that includes hydroxymethyl-containing polyester polyols. The formulation allows a significant replacement of conventional polyols with polyols derived from annually renewable resources, while maintaining important properties like edge curl, tuftbind, viscosity and good curing rates.
Abstract:
An aqueous dispersed polymeric composition for preparing a carpet backing is provided. The aqueous dispersed polymeric composition comprises an aqueous dispersed polymeric material and a hydrophobically-modified ethylene-oxide-based urethane block copolymer. In the preferred embodiment, the aqueous dispersed polymeric material is an aqueous polyurethane dispersion composition. Moreover, a method for preparing a carpet backing using the aqueous dispersed polymeric composition is provided.
Abstract:
The present invention is a continuous process for preparing formulations useful for making filled polymer carpet backings. The present invention particularly incorporates polyisocyanate as a reactive diluent in a continuous process for preparing filled polyurethane polymers. Use of the present invention allows production of carpet backings that incorporate high loadings of filler materials.
