Abstract:
A ductile repair cylinder liner for a diesel engine, the cylinder liner having an additional cooling groove with a parabolic varying cross-section machined into the outer surface of the cylinder liner immediately below the radially extending locating flange for the liner.
Abstract:
A flat panel field emission device includes a black matrix formed from an electrically insulative material such as praseodymium-manganese oxide. The insulative black matrix increases image contrast and reduces power consumption. For field emission devices which utilize a switched anode for selectively activating pixels, the insulative material reduces or eliminates problems associated with short circuiting of the pixels.
Abstract:
A trailer for transporting roll-off containers is disclosed wherein a special trailer is fabricated with longitudinally extending main rails and a plurality of inside rollers and outside rollers rotatively affixed to the main rails. The main rails terminate rearwardly in an angularly declined unloading ramp, which ramp terminates in spaced relation above the road surface. A plurality of six roll-off containers are stacked to form two similar nests of three containers each, with the lowermost container of each nest oriented in horizontal alignment. The two nests of containers are placed upon the trailer in longitudinal juxtaposition in a location wherein the bottom rails of the lowermost containers rest upon either the inside or outside rollers.
Abstract:
A dispensing valve assembly for accurate volumetric dispensation of delicate fluids is disclosed, suitable for use with a fluid dispensing system. The valve has a poppet that is movable within a chamber. A bias spring or external operator urges the poppet towards the top of the chamber, so that a circumferential elastomeric seal engages with the chamber wall. Pressure of fluid to be dispensed entering the top of the chamber forces the poppet towards the bottom of the chamber, disengaging the seal from the chamber wall and allowing fluid to pass around the seal and then out of the chamber through an outlet opening at the bottom of the chamber. Downward travel of the poppet is stopped when the bottom of the poppet contacts the bottom of the chamber. Release of fluid pressure allows the poppet to be forced towards the top of the chamber once again, engaging the seal with a chamber wall. Continued upward displacement deforms the elastomeric material of the seal and results in a pumping action which pumps a portion of the fluid out of the outlet opening, so preventing dripping from the outlet. Chamber structure and seal hardness are chosen to limit pumping action to avoid air backup into the chamber, so preventing foaming of the fluid.
Abstract:
A program, method and materials for enhancing creative thinking, communication, decision-making and strategic planning. The program, materials and method are based on the interplay between physical manipulation of symbolic objects and the effect of such manipulation on the ability to deal with actual objectives. For example, by physically manipulating building blocks, such as those having a stud configuration, (such as those sold under the LEGO® trademark), which are fastened together with studs from a top of one block fitting into receptacles on the bottom of another block, the thinking processes can be fostered and/or enhanced.
Abstract:
A method of forming integrated circuit structures, such as capacitors and conductive plugs, within contact openings formed in a photosensitive silicone ladder polymer (PVSQ) is disclosed. Contact openings with reduced striations and CD loss are formed in a photosensitive silicone ladder polymer (PVSQ) layer by patterning the PVSQ film employing a photomask with a predefined pattern, exposing the PVSQ film to i-line, developing the exposed PVSQ film in a mixture of anisole/xylene in a ratio of about 1:2 for about 30 seconds, and subsequently optionally annealing the undeveloped PVSQ film at a temperature of about 300° C. to about 600° C.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a two-piece piston having a cast high-strength piston crown with a controlled and constant thickness together with a separate skirt of ferrous material.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a topical composition having substantially undifferentiated plant seed cells and, preferably, a pharmaceutically or cosmetically acceptable vehicle. There is also a method for topically applying the composition. There are also methods for delivering a consistent level of an active to skin, nail, lips and/or hair and for enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of a topical composition having substantially undifferentiated plant seed cells.
Abstract:
A method for unloading a plurality of roll-off containers from a special trailer is disclosed. A plurality of six roll-off containers are stacked to form two similar nests of at least two containers each, with the lowermost container of each nest oriented in horizontal alignment and having its bottom rail resting upon the rollers of the trailer. The two nests of containers are placed upon the trailer in longitudinal juxtaposition for transportation purposes. Upon reaching the destination, the two nests of containers are unloaded by a single driver without requiring any external, additional equipment. During unloading, the trailer is backed and suddenly stopped in repeated stages to employ inertial forces to move the nests of containers relative to the trailer until the nests of containers travel the length of the trailer and drop upon the ground.
Abstract:
A low-cost track shoe for tracked vehicles is fabricated from sheet metal stock or scrap pieces according to three alternate shoe structure disclosed herein. The shoe structures of this invention include a plurality of linkage members welded between a bottom plate and a top plate in such a manner as to form unitary assemblies which can be interconnected by means of hinge joints to form any desired track length. The various shoe structures of this invention teach different arrangements of the linkage members and different linkage member structures for obtaining track shoes readily interchangeable with conventional track shoes manufactured by sandcasting methods of the prior art.
