Abstract: Methods and systems are described herein for providing streamlined access to media assets of interest to a user. The method includes determining that a supplemental viewing device, through which a user views a field of view, is directed at a first field of view. The method further involves detecting that the supplemental viewing device is now directed at a second field of view, and determining that a media consumption device is within the second field of view. A first media asset of interest to the user that is available for consumption via the media consumption device is identified, and the supplemental viewing device generates a visual indication in the second field of view. The visual indication indicates that the first media asset is available for consumption via the media consumption device, and the visual indication tracks a location of the media consumption device in the second field of view.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described herein for calculating a predicted time when a first user will be exposed to a spoiler of a first media asset. A media guidance application may retrieve an initial transmission time of the first media asset and a transmission time of a second media asset that precedes the transmission time of the first media asset. The media guidance application may retrieve electronic communications from a second user whose electronic communications the first user has viewed, and determine a subset of the electronic communications that correspond to the second media asset. The media guidance application may calculate a length of time from the transmission time of the second media asset to the earliest availability time of an electronic communication in the subset. The media guidance application may calculate the predicted time based on the transmission time of the first media asset and the length of time.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for displaying subjects of a portion of content. Media data of content is analyzed during playback, and a number of action signatures are identified. Each action signature is associated with a particular subject within the content. The action signature is stored, along with a timestamp corresponding to a playback position at which the action signature begins, in association with an identifier of the particular subject. Upon receiving a command, icons representing each of a number of action signatures at or near the current playback position are displayed. Upon receiving user selection of an icon corresponding to a particular signature, a portion of the content corresponding to the action signature is played back.

Abstract: Systems and methods for ensuring that sufficient network bandwidth exists to support proper operation of an IPTV service. An application monitoring device monitors one or more networked devices that collectively run an IPTV application and various other applications. The application monitoring device determines the amount of network bandwidth used by these various other applications. If the applications use sufficient bandwidth that an insufficient amount remains for proper operation of the IPTV application, the application monitoring device may reduce the amount of bandwidth used by the various applications. Bandwidth reduction may be accomplished by, for example, identifying certain applications that consume excessive bandwidth, and instructing the applications to close, throttle their bandwidth usage, or pause one or more operations.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for displaying subjects of a portion of content and searching for content related to a particular subject in the content. Upon receiving user selection of an icon corresponding to a particular signature, a portion of the content corresponding to the action signature is played back or a search interface is displayed including autocomplete suggestions related to the subject of the signature.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for managing, based on a portion of media asset consumed, power consumption of user equipment. A media guidance application may, upon determining that user inactivity time at a user equipment exceeds a threshold inactivity time, determine that a media asset currently being presented at the user equipment has not reached its end point. The media guidance application may then determine a playback duration for which the media asset has been presented. The media guidance application may, upon determining that the playback duration exceeds a threshold playback duration, continue monitoring user activity at the user equipment until the end point for the media asset is reached to determine an updated user inactivity time. The media guidance application may determine that the updated inactivity time exceeds the threshold inactivity time and in response, perform a power management process to reduce power consumption of the user equipment.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for recommending a media asset based on a geographic location at which that media asset was frequently consumed. For example, the system may monitor a location, such as New York City or Times Square, to determine popular media assets watched there, such as “The Avengers,” and when another user visits New York City, the system may then notify the user that the movie, such as “The Avengers,” is associated with New York City. The system stores the geographic locations associated with the media asset in the database based on the consumption of the media asset so that other users may be notified which media assets are associated with each geographic location.

Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting custom navigation options are described herein. In some embodiments, the media guidance application displays a first portion of a media asset, and receives a user selection of an entity depicted within the portion. The media guidance application identifies a playlist of media asset portions associated with the entity, and generates for display a transport bar associated with the entity comprising an indicator identifying the entity and only one or more regions associated with the playlist of media asset portions. The media guidance application then receives a second user selection, and generates for display a second portion of the media asset associated with the entity in response. In some embodiments, the media guidance application identifies the playlist by searching a custom presentation database for entries associated with the entity, and retrieves the playlist from the identified entry.
