Abstract: A communications device for use in a wireless communications system comprising an infrastructure equipment, a location server, a contents server and the communications device is provided. The transceiver circuitry and controller circuitry are configured in combination to receive assistance information comprising a communication trigger from the location server via the infrastructure equipment, to estimate a current geographical location of the communications device, and to select, dependent on the current geographical location of the communications device and/or on the communication trigger, one of a plurality of wireless communications technologies to be used by the communications device for communication.

Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device supporting a plurality of positioning techniques which use positioning measurements made by the terminal device and positioning assistance information received from a location server to determine the location of the terminal device. The method includes: establishing a target location; selecting a first positioning technique for navigating towards the target location; receiving first positioning assistance information from the location server for the first positioning technique; determining a first location of the terminal device in accordance with the first positioning technique and the first positioning assistance information; establishing a first trigger for using a second positioning technique which is associated with higher positioning accuracy than the first positioning technique; and, in response to determining the first trigger is satisfied, determining a second location of the terminal device in accordance with the second positioning technique and second positioning assistance information received from the location server.

Abstract: A method of controlling communications within a wireless communications network is provided. The method comprises receiving, at a first of the infrastructure equipment acting as a donor node connected to a core network part of a wireless communications network, signals representing data from a second of the infrastructure equipment over a first communications path via one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as relay nodes, receiving, at the first infrastructure equipment, assistance information from at least one of the second infrastructure equipment and the one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as the relay nodes, and determining, by one of the first infrastructure equipment and the one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as the relay nodes in the case that the assistance information satisfies a trigger condition, that the second infrastructure equipment should communicate with the first infrastructure equipment over a second communications path.

Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device to receive user plane data from a network infrastructure equipment in a wireless telecommunications network when the terminal device is not in an active radio resource connected mode, the method comprising: receiving paging message signalling from the network infrastructure equipment, wherein the paging message signalling comprises an indication the network infrastructure equipment has user plane data for transmission to the terminal device while the terminal device is not in an active radio resource connected mode; determining from the paging message signalling a set of radio resources on which the user plane data is to be transmitted by the network infrastructure equipment to the terminal device; and receiving the user plane data from the network infrastructure equipment using the determined set of radio resources while the terminal device is not in an active radio resource connected mode.

Abstract: A terminal device is configured to detect a failure in communicating the position assistance information, such as a failure to decrypt or an integrity protection decoding failure, and in response to detecting the failure in communicating the position assistance information to perform a position assistance information failure procedure. In one example embodiment the position assistance information failure procedure includes transmitting a message indicating the failure to the infrastructure equipment. In another example the position assistance information failure procedure includes adapting one or more communications parameters in order to recover the reception of the position assistance information.

Abstract: A method for use in a mobile communications network that includes a plurality of infrastructure equipment each providing wireless connectivity within at least one cell, and a communications device configured to communicate wirelessly with at least a first infrastructure equipment including use of a radio bearer. The first infrastructure equipment performs the method including determining that there is a requirement to alter data handling resources allocated for handling the radio bearer in one or both of the first infrastructure equipment and the communications device, re-establishing, in response to the determination, its radio link control protocol layer, transmitting a reconfiguration message to the communications device to effect re-establishment of its radio link control protocol layer, and adding a new bit in the header of data packets transmitted to the communications device for a predetermined time after re-establishment of the radio link control protocol layer of the first infrastructure equipment.
