Abstract: Provided are a filtering method and apparatus for removing blocking artifacts and ringing noise. The filtering method includes transforming video data on a block-by-block basis, and detecting the presence of an edge region in the video data by checking the distribution of values obtained by the transformation. Accordingly, it is possible to completely remove blocking artifacts and/or ringing noise by more effectively detecting the presence of an edge region in video data.

The apparatus includes an edge detector that detects an edge pixel from contents based on a luminance component of the contents, a histogram analyzer that generates at least one histogram with respect to the edge pixel and determines a gain variable value of the edge pixel based on the at least one histogram, and a gain regulator that determines a gain corresponding to the gain variable value of the edge pixel.

Abstract: A processor-implemented speech recognition method includes: applying, to an input layer of a neural network, a frame of a speech sequence; obtaining an output of a hidden layer of the neural network corresponding to the frame; calculating a statistical value of at least one previous output of the hidden layer corresponding to at least one previous frame of the speech sequence; normalizing the output based on the statistical value; applying the normalized output to a subsequent layer of the neural network; and recognizing the speech sequence based on the applying of the normalized output.
