摘要: An apparatus for performing in-situ curvature measurement of a substrate during a deposition process is provided which includes a clamp for retaining the substrate near one end while leaving the opposite end free. A plurality of displacement sensors are arranged in a spaced apart fashion along the length of the substrate and are directed to a surface of the substrate opposite a surface to be coated. Each sensor provides a signal to a computer corresponding to a position of the substrate relative to the sensor. The computer receives and stores data from the displacement sensors to determine a stress evolution during a deposition process and to determine a coating modulus based upon a resultant curvature of the substrate.

摘要: A system for fine feature spray deposition includes a substrate platform for supporting a substrate on which the features are to be deposited. A spray assembly is provided which includes a spray source for providing a stream of material to be deposited on a substrate, a collimator which is positioned in a path of the stream from said spray source and an aperture assembly, which is positioned downstream of the collimator with respect to the spray source and above the substrate platform. The aperture assembly defines at least one opening to pass a portion of the stream of material onto a surface of the substrate. A drive mechanism is provided which is coupled to at least one of the spray assembly and the substrate platform for inducing relative motion there between. A controller is coupled to the spray assembly and the drive mechanism to control the relative motion and the stream of material. The system allows fine features to be printed directly on a substrate with requiring a predefined mask. Multilayer structures, such as electrical components for circuits or sensor systems, can be formed by sequentially depositing features with various electrical properties.

摘要: A method is disclosed for preparing an intimate mixture of powders of nickel-chromium-boron-silicon alloy, molybdenum metal powder, and Cr.sub.3 C.sub.2 /NiCr alloy suitable for thermal spray coatings which comprises milling a starting mixture of the above two alloys with molybdenum powder to produce a milled mixture wherein the average particle size is less than about 10 micrometers in diameter, forming an aqueous slurry of the resulting milled mixture and a binder which can be an ammoniacal molybdate compound or polyvinyl alcohol, and agglomerating the milled mixture and binder. The intimate mixture and binder may be sintered in a reducing atmosphere at a temperature of about 800.degree. C. to 950.degree. C. for a sufficient time to form a sintered partially alloyed mixture wherein the bulk density is greater than about 1.2 g/cc. The resulting sintered mixture may be entrained in an inert carrier gas, passed into a plasma flame wherein the plasma gas can be argon or a mixture of argon and hydrogen, and maintained in the plasma flame for a sufficient time to melt essentially all of the powder particles of the sintered mixture to form spherical particles of the melted portion, and to further alloy the sintered mixture, and cooled.
