摘要: A head stack assembly for a data recording disk drive has a carriage on which a coil is mounted. The carriage has a first surface and a second surface. A first head gimbal assembly is mounted on the first surface, and a second head gimbal assembly is mounted on the second surface. A datum member is formed on each of the surfaces of the carriage. The datum member is used to position each of the head gimbal assemblies on their respective surfaces. The datum member has two pins that engage apertures in the head gimbal assemblies. A pivot member is located in a separate aperture between the pins such that the head stack assembly is balanced at the center of the pivot member.

摘要: Embodiments of the present invention provide a rotating disk storage device having a mechanism to reliably retract an actuator into a retraction area in the event that the power supply is suddenly interrupted. A bias chip is embedded in a coil support that supports the voice coil. When a head stays in an access area, the bias chip is away from an end of the voice coil magnet. Therefore, no influence of the magnetic leakage flux is exerted on the bias chip. When the head is in a retraction area, the bias chip is attracted under the influence of the magnetic leakage flux of the voice coil magnet, which thereby produces bias torque causing an actuator to pivotally move in a retraction direction. Accordingly, the bias torque can be utilized as energy for retracting the actuator immediately after power shutdown.

摘要: When attaching/detaching a magnetic disk drive to/from the slot of a PC card, the user holds the drive with his or her fingers and thumb, applying figure pressure to the portion of the drive in which the magnetic head is located, which might lead to damage to the magnetic head and the magnetic disk in the worst case. A magnetic disk drive according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises a magnetic disk, a spindle motor for holding and rotating the magnetic disk, a magnetic head for writing/reading information to/from the magnetic disk, an actuator having the magnetic head mounted on one end thereof, for moving the magnetic head in a radial direction of the magnetic disk, and a circuit board having electronic components thereon. A connector for transmitting signals from the magnetic head to an external device is attached to a side of the circuit board close to the magnetic head.

摘要: This invention is to reduce the influence of a gas generated by an anodizing reaction. A silicon substrate (101) to be processed is horizontally held. A negative electrode (129) is arranged on the upper side of the silicon substrate (101), and a positive electrode (114) is brought into contact with the lower surface of the silicon substrate (101). The space between the negative electrode (129) and the silicon substrate (101) is filled with an HF solution (132). The negative electrode (129) has a number of degassing holes (130) to prevent a gas generated by the anodizing reaction from staying on the lower side of the negative electrode (129).

摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide a head gimbals assembly and a head stack assembly suitable for a miniature magnetic disk drive, and capable of being assembled in an accurate alignment during its fabrication. In one embodiment, a fixing member is disposed in contact with a pivot, an assembly formed by combining a head gimbals assembly and a carriage assembly is put on the pivot and pressed in the direction of the arrow toward the fixing member, and is fastened to the pivot with a nut. Since the head gimbals assembly is provided with a hole to receive the pivot therein provided with two straight edges, the relative positions of the turning axis of the pivot, the head gimbals assembly and the carriage assembly are adjusted properly so that clearances between the parts are absorbed.

摘要: A rotating disk storage device has a stopper mechanism and a latch mechanism for diminishing a shock imposed on an actuator head suspension assembly (AHSA) and permits positive retraction of the AHSA upon occurrence of an external shock or runaway. In one embodiment, the latch mechanism comprises an AHSA which is supported pivotably, a stopper which restricts a pivotal movement in a pivot direction of the AHSA, an inertia member adapted to move pivotally in a corresponding pivot direction when the AHSA moves pivotally in the pivot direction while causing the stopper to be deformed elastically, and a latch member which has an engaging portion and which, upon receipt of the torque from the inertia member, moves pivotally in a direction opposite from the corresponding pivot direction, and causes the engaging portion to move to a latching position. Shock energy of the AHSA is attenuated by both stopper and inertia member.

摘要: A porous layer is formed on an Si substrate using an anodizing apparatus having a conductive partition inserted between a cathode and an anode. First, the cathode and Si substrate are brought into electrical contact through a first electrolyte, and the conductive partition and Si substrate are brought into electrical contact through a second electrolyte. A current is flowed between the cathode and the anode to form a porous layer on the Si substrate. As the first electrolyte, an electrolyte capable of forming a porous structure on the Si substrate is used. As the second electrolyte, an electrolyte substantially incapable of forming a porous structure on the conductive partition is used.

摘要: A body device 2 has left and right display units disposed adjacent to both eyes of a user. A program cartridge 4 is detachably provided to this body device 2. The game cartridge 4 stores program data and image data for eye width/visibility adjusting picture display. The body device 2 reads the program from the program cartridge 4 and executes it immediately after the power is turned on or at the time when the game is temporarily stopped, and reads and refers to the image data to display eye width/visibility adjusting pictures in the left and right display units. Then, the user operates an eye width adjusting lever 201 and a visibility adjusting lever 202 on the upper surface of the body device 2 while watching the eye width/visibility adjusting pictures displayed in the left and right display systems. The space set between the left and right display units is thus adjusted. The visibility adjustment in the left and right display units is also achieved.
