摘要: A sensor mount assembly including a housing, fastener and a lever mechanism. The housing contains a sensor having two electrical leads and includes an integral flange adapted to receive a fastener. The fastener includes a body and a head. The body is received in the flange to secure the housing to a mount. The lever mechanism is proximate the flange and includes a contact block and a conductor. The contact block is acted upon by the fastener head to move the lever mechanism and, hence the conductor, between a first position and a second position. The first position corresponds to an unmounted sensor and creates a short circuit condition between the two electrical leads. The second position corresponds to a properly mounted sensor and creates an open circuit between the two electrical leads such that the electrical circuit path of the overall system includes the sensor within the housing.

摘要: A device (20) for an automotive vehicle (10) is provided to indicate the buckled and unbuckled status of a seatbelt (24). The device (20) has a self-powered wireless switch assembly (22) that is coupled to the seatbelt (24). It provides power to power a wireless transmitter (44) to transmit a wireless signal (45) corresponding to the buckled and unbuckled state of the seatbelt (24). The self-powered wireless switch assembly (22) harvests energy from the mechanical action of the seatbelt (24). The device (20) transmits a wireless signal (45) indicating the seatbelt (24) status. The receiver (18) located in the automotive vehicle (10) receives the wireless signal (45). The wireless signal (45) is processed by a safety information system (12) and then visually and audibly displayed by an indicator (16) to alert the driver of the seatbelt (24) status.

摘要: A system for monitoring the secured/unsecured status of seat belts in rear seating rows of a vehicle notes the number and/or location of seat belts secured at a base time when all doors are closed and the vehicle starts in motion. The vehicle operator is alerted to any later change in the number of secured belts by a visual display provided by a vehicle message center and/or an audible signal. When the vehicle slows to a stop and a door opens, the number of secured belts is reset to allow continued monitoring of rear seat occupants after occupants are dropped off and/or picked up. The secured/unsecured condition may be determined by monitoring a retractor reel of the seat belt, the secured condition being defined by the seat belt being paid out beyond a threshold length and the unsecured condition being defined by the seat belt being retracted shorter than the threshold length. Seat occupancy sensors are not required, and rear seat occupants may temporarily unfasten their seat belt as necessary to move from one seating position to another without continuous alerting of the vehicle operator.

摘要: A communication system is provided for an automotive vehicle (10) that uses existing vehicle components with only slight modifications that can be implemented in readily changeable software. The system includes a vehicle bus (14) and a vehicle information source coupled to the vehicle bus. The vehicle information source (28) couples vehicle information to the vehicle bus (14). The transmitter (16) transmits a first communication having a first transmitter identification code and first vehicle information. A receiver (22) is coupled to the vehicle bus. The receiver (22) couples a second communication word having second vehicle information to the vehicle bus. The automotive vehicle (10) also has a safety system and a safety system controller (34) coupled to the bus. The safety system controller (34) actuates the safety system (36) in response to the second vehicle information.

摘要: A method and apparatus for permitting a host automotive vehicle to avoid or mitigate the consequences of a collision between the host vehicle and a target automotive vehicle by using a combination of radar derived target information and transponder information. The host vehicle is equipped with a radar system operative detect the target vehicle and generate target data, and a computer which determines a likelihood of collision with target vehicle. If the likelihood of collision is above a certain level, the computer directs the radar system to transmit a directional interrogation system toward the target vehicle. The target vehicle is equipped with one or more transponders that receive the interrogation signal and respond by transmitting a response signal containing information indicating various dynamic and/or static characteristics of the target vehicle. The response signal is received by the host vehicle and is decoded to extract the target vehicle information. The computer then uses the transponder-derived target information along with the radar-derived target information to accurately determine the nature of the impending collision and direct appropriate changes in performance of one or more systems of the host vehicle in order to avoid or mitigate the consequences of the collision.

摘要: A motor vehicle includes a vehicle floor, a tilt sensor attached to the vehicle floor and having an output, and a forward looking radar module attached to the vehicle. The radar module includes a radar, an accelerometer; and an output from the accelerometer, and a controller that averages the tilt sensor output and the accelerometer output and determines a difference between the output averages, the controller reporting when the differences changes more than a predetermined amount. A method of calibrating the forward looking radar module, when attached to a vehicle, comprises placing the vehicle on a flat surface to determine the accelerometer pitch.
