    摘要: Novel liquid crystal compositions being in a nematic state over a wide temperature range including room temperature and having superior electrooptical properties are prepared by mixing a mixture of specified p-alkoxybenzylidene-p'-cyanoanilines, as one component, with one kind alone or a mixture of specified p-alkyl-p'-cyanobiphenyls, as a second component, or by further adding to the resulting mixture, p-methoxy-or ethoxy-or methyl-benzylidene-p'-n-butylaniline or a mixture thereof, as a third component.

Their optically active isomers form a cholesteric liquid crystal, while their racemates form a nematic liquid crystal.The compounds are trans-4"-alkylcyclohexyl esters of 4'-(2-methyl-butyl)-4-biphenylcarboxylic acid expressed by the general formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a straight chain alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and the symbol * represents an asymmetric carbon atom.

    摘要: Novel nematic liquid crystal compounds having a broad nematic temperature range and a positive dielectric anisotropy by themselves, that is, p-cyanophenyl 4-alkyl-4'-biphenylcarboxylates wherein the alkyl is a straight chain alkyl group having 4-8 carbon atoms or a branched alkyl group having 4-7 carbon atoms and having methyl group as branched group, and a method for preparing the same are provided. Further, novel nematic liquid crystal compositions having a broader nematic temper range i.e. a sufficiently lower nematic limit and a sufficiently higher upper nematic limit is provided by using said compounds.

    摘要: It is an object of the present invention to allow a specified function to be readily selected in a mobile telephone or the like without performing a complicated operation. A liquid crystal (30) is sandwiched between a TFT substrate (10) and a color filter substrate (20). A photosensor TFT (130) for selecting the function is disposed on the periphery of an effective screen of the TFT substrate (10). A window (24) is provided in a portion of the color filter substrate corresponding to the photosensor TFT (130), and the outside light is blocked as a result of the user touching a finger to the window. A signal from the photosensor is used for selecting the function. A correction sensor TFT (133) is disposed adjacent to the photosensor TFT (130), to thereby eliminating noise caused by the temperature distribution, stray light, or the like, and erroneous operation of the photosensoris prevented.

    摘要: A touch panel includes plural first electrodes extending in a first direction, plural second electrodes extending in a second direction different from the first direction, a driving circuit, a detection circuit, and a coordinate-position calculating circuit. The driving circuit sequentially selects two first electrodes out of the plural first electrodes, supplies a high potential voltage higher than a reference voltage to one of the selected two first electrodes, and supplies the reference voltage to the other, the detection circuit detects a capacitance difference (A−B) between a capacitor A between a selected one of the second electrodes and the first electrode to which the high potential voltage is supplied and a capacitor B between the selected second electrode and the first electrode to which the reference voltage is supplied, and the coordinate-position calculating circuit calculates a touch position on the touch panel touched by the observer on the basis of positions of the selected first and second electrodes and the capacitance difference (A−B).
