Abstract: In order to reduce influences of light from indoor lighting equipment or the like on the accuracy in detecting the position of an operating device, an operating device includes: left and right hold sections to be held by a user, each of which is provided with an operating member at an upper surface thereof; a central section which is a section between the left and right hold sections; and a light emitting surface adapted to emit light to be captured by an information processing apparatus through a camera, the light emitting surface provided at a front surface of the central section. The central section includes a portion which is located over the light emitting surface and is located on a more forward side than the light emitting surface.

Abstract: An acquisition unit 200 acquires image data in which game play is recorded or image data of a game currently being played. A display processing unit 202 displays an image of game play using the acquired image data and displays an image for acquiring game software while the image of the game play is being displayed or after the completion of the display of the image of the game play. When a reception unit 204 receives an input operation in the image for acquiring the game software, a request generation unit 206 generates a request for downloading that indicates, as a destination of the game software, another information processing apparatus different from the information processing apparatus, and a transmission unit 208 transmits the generated request for downloading.

Abstract: When an acquisition unit acquires image data of a game being played on another information processing apparatus, a display processing unit displays, using the acquired image data, an image of game play. A participation processing unit allows a user to join the game being played on the other information processing apparatus, and an execution unit activates game software after it is determined that the user joins the game. While the execution unit is activating the game software, the display processing unit continues to display the image of the game play.

Abstract: An image generation unit generates image data to be displayed on an outputting apparatus. An acceptance unit accepts operation information of inputting units provided in an inputting apparatus. Abstract: An operating device includes: right and left hold sections to be held by a user, the right and left hold sections provided with first operating members; and a central section interconnecting the right and left hold sections. The operating device has a second operating member forming an upper surface of the central section. The second operating member includes a touch sensor located between the first operating members of the right and left hold sections, and is so supported as to be capable of vertical movement in response to a user s pressing-down operation. The second operating member is plate-like in shape, so that user s fingers can easily reach the second operating member in a condition where the user is holding the hold sections. As a result, operability of the operating device can be enhanced.

Abstract: A communication section receives a connection request from a game controller to connect the game controller with an information processing apparatus. A registered user information holding section holds biometric information of a user registered in the information processing apparatus. A biometric authentication portion compares biometric information of a user included in a taken image with biometric information held in the registered user information holding section to determine whether the imaged user is a user registered in the information processing apparatus.
