An exemplary method comprises scanning a wireless signal associated with the mobile device; measuring a signal strength associated with the wireless signal; determining a timestamp associated with the measurement; and determining a position of the mobile device based on the signal strength measurement and the timestamp. The present invention is useful for both positioning a user of the mobile device and for locating an access point.
