摘要: An apparatus consisting of stacked slab waveguides whose outputs are vertically staggered is disclosed. At the input to the stacked waveguides, the entrances to each slab lie in approximately the same vertical plane. A spot which is imaged onto the input will be transformed approximately to a set of staggered rectangles at the output, without substantial loss in brightness, which staggered rectangles can serve as a convenient input to a spectroscopic apparatus. A slit mask can be added to spatially filter the outputs so as to present the desired transverse width in the plane of the spectroscopic apparatus parallel to its dispersion.

摘要: An apparatus is presented for stabilizing an optical, thermal, and mechanical interface between a spectroscopic and/or imaging system and a biological sample. The apparatus includes a window retainer having a retainer surface and a well. The retainer surface surrounds the well. Further, the retainer surface is substantially planar. An optical window is located in the well. The optical window comprises a first and second surface. The second surface is in contact with the window retainer. The first surface is substantially flush with the retainer surface. The apparatus further includes an attachment mechanism coupling the window retainer to the biological sample such that a fluid, gel, adhesive or elastomer interposed between the optical window and the biological sample is trapped in the well.

摘要: A receptacle that is configured to receive connectors of different types. If a connector of one type is received into the receptacle, the connector contacts engage one set of receptacle contacts. If a connector of another type is received into the receptacle, the connector contacts engage another set of receptacle contacts, and so forth for potentially other connector types and other contact sets. A communication system may also control which PHY circuitry communicates with the receptacle depending on which connector type is plugged into the receptacle. The receptacle can include a connector detection mechanism configured to detect whether a connector of the first type or second type is inserted into the receptacle. Circuitry and pin design of the receptacle also depends on the first and second connector types.

摘要: An optical transceiver includes a transceiver housing configured to receive an optical sub-assembly insert. The optical sub-assembly insert includes duplex cavities configured to hold a transmit optical sub-assembly front end and a receive optical sub-assembly front end in a fixed spatial orientation for a given optical connector interface. The optical sub-assembly insert is configurable to fit inside a transceiver housing with a relatively wide range of X and Y dimensional tolerance. In one implementation, the X-Y position of the optical sub-assembly insert is dictated by the position of the transmit optical-sub assembly front end after its corresponding back end has been mounted to a heat dissipation element. Any gaps that form between the optical sub-assembly insert and the inside surface of the transceiver housing as a result of the transmit optical sub-assembly position can be accommodated with filler material.

摘要: In one example embodiment, a host device includes a host bezel, first and second guides, and a host connector. The host bezel defines an opening configured to receive a pluggable module. A first cutout on one side of the opening and a second cutout on the opposite side of the opening are adapted to receive corresponding guiderails on the module. The first and second guides are coupled to the host bezel and to a host printed circuit board. Each of the first and second guides defines a channel configured to receive the first and second guiderails of the module. The host connector is coupled to the host printed circuit board and is disposed at the back end of the first and second guides. The host connector includes a recessed slot configured to receive a module connector to electrically couple the module to the host printed circuit board.

摘要: Methods of manufacturing lead frame connectors for use in connecting optical sub-assemblies to printed circuit boards in optical transceiver modules are disclosed. The lead frame connectors are formed by first stamping a selected configuration of conductors in a conductive ribbon. Each of the conductors can then be secured in a fixed position with respect to each other. A casing having a first part and a second part can then be molded about the conductors such that each of the conductors forms an electrical contact restrained in a fixed position with respect to the first part and a contact point extending from the second part. The conductors can be bent into any desired position to allow the electrical contacts to be connected to the optical sub assembly and the contact points to be connected to the printed circuit board.
