For example, the vapor passage may be formed in spiral to encircle the polymer chamber, or provided between the polymer and charcoal chambers, thus allowing the evaporated fuel to pass therethrough. The vapor passage is constructed to prevent the evaporated fuel trapped by the polymer absorbent from flowing into the charcoal chamber, and also to prevent the liquid fuel from being absorbed by the charcoal.

A fuel absorbent is provided in which polymer particles having a fuel absorbing ability are contained or dispersed in a binder matrix permeable to fuel. The fuel permeates the binder and is absorbed by the polymer particles. A process is provided for making the fuel absorbent by mixing polymer particles having fuel absorbing ability with a binder dissolved in a solvent, to thereby obtain a dispersion mixture having the polymer particles dispersed therein. The dispersion mixture is then dried to cause the polymer particles to be dispersed in a matrix of the binder. The fuel absorbent has excellent durability and fuel absorbing/desorbing ability.

The layered porous silica is composed of a plurality of superposed sheets made of a framework of SiO.sub.2. Adjacent sheets are partly bonded each other to form a three-dimensional framework having a large number of pores. The sorbent can be used in combination with an organic polymer sorbent, so as to sorb evaporated fuel in two stages.

An evaporative fuel control canister for use in an internal combustion engine includes a canister main body having a vapor absorbing chamber and a liquid separate chamber. The vapor absorbing chamber has a first portion filled with a vapor absorbing material, and a second spatial portion. The liquid separate chamber has an expansible and contractible member containing a liquid absorbing material. The vapor absorbing chamber is adjacent to the liquid separate chamber in a ventilation state. The canister includes a vapor passage coupling a fuel tank and the liquid separate chamber, and a purge passage coupling the internal combustion engine and the liquid separate chamber. The purge passage has a first opening positioned in the expansible and contractible member, and a second opening positioned in the second spatial portion. The canister includes stopper members for maintaining a surface of the expansible and contractible member at a position which the extensible and contractible member does not reach the second opening so that the second spatial portion is always maintained.

A cross-linked polyurethane resin powder includes a powder including particles made from a hard or a semi-hard polyurethane resin. The particles have a superficial portion and an internal portion disposed inside the superficial portion, and involve cross-linked bondings therein. Part of the cross-linked bondings are unchanged, and another part thereof are broken to result in activated groups. At least part of the activated groups are exposed on the superficial portion of the particles. The cross-linked polyurethane resin powder is produced by hydrolyzing a hard or semi-hard polyurethane resin in the presence of water and in a temperature range of from a hydrolysis temperature of the resin to a liquefying temperature thereof, and by applying a predetermined shearing force to the resin. The cross-linked polyurethane resin powder can disperse well in resinous substrates, and can upgrade the physical properties of the resulting recycled products.

A process for reclaiming waste plastics having a paint film which includes subjecting the paint film to a hydrolysis treatment by immersing the waste plastics having a urethane paint film or an amino resin paint film in a treating liquid, or contacting the waste plastics with the vapor of a treating liquid, to decompose the paint into lower molecular weight compounds. The resulting waste plastics are then heated and kneaded to disperse the products of the hydrolysis in the waste plastics, and there is recovered a reclaimed waste plastics product having good mechanical properties.
