    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of cleaning an innermost surface of a pneumatic tire, the surface having a residue deposited thereon, comprising the steps of: activating a laser to generate laser radiation; directing a pulse of laser radiation to impinge on an area of the innermost surface, the pulse of radiation having a pulse width and a fluence sufficient to remove at least part of the residue in the area to form a cleaned area; repeating the step of directing the pulse of radiation sequentially over the innermost surface to form a sequence of cleaned areas, the sequence of cleaned areas defining a stripe, the stripe following a continuous nonlinear path extending at least one circumference about the inner surface, the stripe having a stripe width W2. The invention is further directed to a tire made by the method.

    Abstract: A pumping device is used with a pneumatic tire mounted on a tire rim to keep the pneumatic tire from becoming underinflated. The device includes a pumping device attached to the tire rim, a dynamic mass mechanically confined to rotational movement relative to the pumping device and the tire rim, the dynamic mass moving in response to a minimum angular acceleration and a minimum angular velocity of the tire rim and pumping ambient air into the pumping device, an intake port for ambient air to enter the pumping device, and an exhaust port for forcing pressurized air into a tire cavity of the pneumatic tire for restoring air loss from an inflation volume within the tire cavity, the dynamic mass and the pumping device both being weighted equally on each side of a centerline of the tire rim.

    Abstract: An air pumping tube and tire system and method of assembling is provided in which a tire groove is formed to extend into a flexing region of a tire sidewall and a complementary air pumping tube inserts into the tire groove. In the green, uncured air pumping tube condition, one or more check valves are assembled into the air pumping tube through access shafts and align with an internal air passageway of the air pumping tube. Plug components of the system enclose the check valves in the air pumping tube and the check valve-containing green air pumping tube is then cured.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a pneumatic tire comprising a tread portion, two bead portions, two sidewalls extending between the tread portion and the respective bead portions, an inner surface defining a tire cavity, a sealant material layer covering the inner surface radially below the tread portion within the tire cavity, and at least one noise dampening strip which is partially covering and attached to the sealant material on a radially inner side and along a circumferential direction of the sealant material layer.     Abstract: An air maintenance tire assembly includes an air pumping passageway located within a tire sidewall to generate compressed air. An outlet screw assembly includes an elongate screw body residing within a profiled sidewall bore. The screw body extends through an axial span of the first sidewall to the tire cavity to conduct air from the sidewall air passageway to the tire cavity. The screw body has enlarged sectional end components to deter radial dislodging of the screw body from the sidewall bore during operation.
